Applying for a postdoctoral position can be a challenging process, particularly when you are making your first steps beyond the PhD. What are selection committees looking for? How should you choose which positions to apply for? What makes a strong CV or research statement? How important are publications, recommendation letters and networking? And what should you expect from the interview process?
In this session, Anna Liu will share advice and insights on the postdoc application process, covering the different stages of an application and highlighting strategies to help PhD students present their research, experience and potential effectively. The session will also address common pitfalls and offer guidance on how to approach the search for postdoc opportunities and make informed decisions about the next step in an academic career. The aim is to provide PhD students with a realistic and practical overview of the process, helping them prepare stronger applications and approach the transition from PhD to postdoc with greater confidence.
This session aims to contribute to the development of the IGFAE’s Mentoring and Career Development Plan, which is designed to strengthen support for our staff in areas such as training, applications for positions and grants, as well as competitive projects with external funding.
