The research of excellence developed by CiQUS, CiMUS, CiTIUS and IGFAE will be put in the service of outreach one more year as it will be presented to families and visitors of all ages next Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 to 20:00.

Three editions and, for the first time, four research centers: next Saturday 16 November, the Singular Research Centers Network of the University of Santiago (RCSI-USC) will celebrate a new edition of ‘Singular Science’, the Open Day aimed to its nearest social environment. A meeting conceived as the largest outreach annual event promoted so far by research teams from CIQUS, CIMUS and CiTIUS, which for the first time in 2019 will also include the Galician Institute of High Energy Physics (IGFAE).

The participation in this Open Day is completely free and requires prior registration through the official website of the event: People interested in joining the event -alone or accompanied by their families-, may send their requests from Tuesday 5 November at 16:00.

Changing the world from the molecular scale

Chemistry is one of the most powerful tools that society has to face the challenges of the 21st century. Every day, the commitment of CiQUS researchers allows to explore new applications in fields such as health (Biological and Medical Chemistry), or industry (Functional Materials, Catalysis). Only eight years after its foundation, the center is already a reference for interdisciplinary research at the border of Chemistry, Biomedicine and Materials Science.

Chronic diseases and molecular medicine

CiMUS works on prevention, understanding and treatment of chronic diseases in areas such as cancer, Endocrinology, Cardiovascular, Neurosciences, Genetics and Bioinformatics, Nanomedicine and Drug development. Together with the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Santiago, the center is integrated in the IDIS, a Health Research Institute recogniezed by the Spanish Ministry of Health.

Smart technologies, social benefit

Researchers at CiTIUS work on developing a new generation of intelligent technologies that allow to bring Artificial Intelligence form the theoretical to the real world, easing their integration within the industry and society in a transparent, robust and reliable way. These technologies have apllications in multiple areas, from business to civil security, as well as health, transport or smart cities -among others-.

At the top of international research in Physics

The Galician Institute of High Energy Physics (IGFAE) is a center accredited as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence, whose research areas attempt to answer many of the essential questions of physical nature: the study of microscopic reality at the fundamental level (Standard Model), the connection between particle physics and cosmology, and the study of nuclear structure and medical applications. Since its foundation, IGFAE carries in its DNA the international collaboration with large international prestigious infrastructures, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).
