About the IGFAE
The Instituto Galego de Física de Altas Enerxías (IGFAE) is a research centre created in 1999 by the University of Santiago de Compostela and the Xunta de Galicia. It was founded with the aim of coordinating and promoting scientific and technical research in the fields of High Energy, Particle and Nuclear Physics, and related areas such as Astrophysics, Medical Physics or Instrumentation. It hosts more than 140 people who participate in experimental facilities such as CERN, LIGO, GSI/FAIR or the Pierre Auger Observatory, among others.
The IGFAE’s scientific work and its international projection have twice earned it accreditation as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence, awarded by the State Research Agency of the Spanish Government. So far, it is the only Galician centre to have achieved this prestigious seal. The IGFAE also has the CIGUS recognition from the Xunta de Galicia, which accredits the quality and impact of its research.
The IGFAE is an equal opportunities institution and is committed to increasing the diversity of its staff, which is why it particularly welcomes applications from women, minorities and people with disabilities. The IGFAE has its own Equality and Diversity Plan and actively works to increase gender, geographic and minority balance within the institute.
