IGFAE’s research areas seek answers to some of the fundamental questions of nature. The timescales involved in this basic science can often be extremely long. However, the innovation and technological development required to carry out this research can provide great service to society.
On the occasion of the previous “María de Maeztu” excellence accreditation, IGFAE launched the IGNITE program, aimed at exploring new research avenues and promoting technology transfer among the Centre’s staff. IGNITE provided funding to establish the roots of new activities aligned with the Institute’s scientific strategy. A new edition of this program will be launched in 2025.
Within this framework, IGFAE created in 2021 its own Innovation, Knowledge & Technology Transfer Unit (KTT), committed to strengthening external collaboration links with industry and society. Similarly, this Unit offers IGFAE research staff the necessary opportunities to establish connections with industry, develop intellectual property protection, or form spin-offs or start-ups based on science conducted at the Institute.
The KTT Unit’s team is equipped to identify transferable research results, assess commercial potential and intellectual property, manage result-transfer contracts, support and advise industrial initiatives and executive training, and also provide training related to KTT.
Furthermore, this Unit maintains close collaboration with USC’s Valuation, Transfer & Entrepreneurship area, the service responsible for promoting KTT culture within the university community.
