The IGFAE headquarters in Santiago de Compostela received on July 20 and 21 the representatives of the general assembly of APPEC, the Astroparticle Physics European Consortium. This entity brings together representatives of the EU countries, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation in this field of research, located at the intersection of astronomy, particle physics and cosmology.
The general assembly is the main strategic, decision-making and supervisory body of APPEC, being responsible for the general policy and procedures of the entity. It analyzes the status of major international projects underway in the field of astroparticle physics, defines strategic lines of research and strengthens coordination between the different European countries.
The meeting in Santiago addressed issues such as the incorporation of Canada into APPEC or the update of the European astroparticle strategy for the period 2027-2036, which will mark the way forward in areas of study such as dark matter or energy, neutrinos, high-energy cosmic rays, gravitational waves, gamma rays, the cosmic microwave background or
The meeting, hosted by José Ángel Hernando Morata, IGFAE researcher and member of the international collaborations NEXT and HyperKamiokande, was attended by just over a dozen members of the assembly, which is currently coordinated by the Spanish researcher Carlos Peña Garay, director of the Canfranc Underground Laboratory.
