Holography and Extreme Chromodynamics

Holography is a calculation tool to explore the strongly coupled regime of gauge theories. It fits naturally into some problems related to quark and gluon dynamics under extreme conditions, both in and out of equilibrium. The ease at which results like the smallness of eta/s or fastness of thermalisation arise, seem to point out to an advantageous choice of variables. Still, a lot of work needs to be done in order to go beyond qualitative achievements.
In this workshop, we will discuss progress that has been made in recent years in the formulation of realistic models that one can find all over the phase diagram of QCD: high temperature and/or high density regimes, phase transitions, jet quenching, chiral magnetic effect, etc. Also attention will be payed to methods that are being developed to tackle specific problems: semi-holography, numerical relativity, etc.

The workshop will last for four full days, from monday 2nd till thursday 5th July 2018. The emphasis will be put on discussion and interaction, something that the venue allows easily for.

Topics
Heavy Ion collisions, neutron stars, QCD phases and transitions, low-x, jet quenching, semi-holography, chiral magnetic effect.

Venue
The workshop will take place in the Hospedería del Monasterio de San Martín Pinario, a massive baroque building next to the Cathedral, at the heart of the city. Accommodation at the venue is possible at a very convenient price. The surroundings are those of the old town of Santiago, one of the pearls of the Middle Ages in Europe. In July the city receives the visit of many tourists and pilgrims. There is a nice atmosphere on the streets and the nights are full of cultural offers. Food and surroundings are also very much appreciated.
