The new phase of the Global Talent programme aims to consolidate the IGFAE as an internationally competitive research centre to attract the best research talent in the early stages of their careers.
The programme was born with the vision of attracting junior staff (R3) to the IGFAE, and opening the door to subsequent stabilisation through the Ramón y Cajal programme or the calls of the European Research Council (ERC). Thus, since 2017, this plan to attract, train and retain scientific personnel of excellence has recruited four distinguished researchers and four La Caixa Junior Leader researchers for the IGFAE from among hundreds of applications from all over the world. Almost all of them have subsequently obtained a Ramón y Cajal contract.
These non-tenure-track research positions, at assistant professor level, aim to attract and support outstanding advanced postdoctoral research staff by providing them with resources to develop an independent research programme within the institute, including discretionary annual research funds.
In its third year, the programme proved its effectiveness: although the positions are not tenure-track, all previous recipients have subsequently obtained university contracts.
The Institute encourages proposals that introduce new lines of research that complement its existing strengths.
These three-year positions include additional funding for research, training and opportunities to supervise PhD students and postdocs. The IGFAE will encourage and support successful applications to apply for ERC projects and Ramón y Cajal tenure-track programmes.
