Hi all,

RyanAir flies twice per day from Porto for 1/5th-1/10th of the price, which is a huge factor. The 1st flight on the morning is to the main airport, the 2nd in the  afternoon is to the low-cost airport. Flights from Santiago are only mondays and fridays to the low cost airport. I will take the flight back to Santiago via Ryan Air bc I have to be here on friday.

Perhaps we can arrange a shuttle from santiago to Porto if we all go with the same travel agency (?). I can ask. Another option is share car(s) and leave hen in the airport parking. (This is reimbursed of course).
Cheers!
L.

Ah okay. That works as well. Since you said you were going to book yourself, I assumed we'd book ourselves or through a travel agency according to personal preference. As such, I have already sent an email to the travel agency for myself. It's fine. I can share the prices proposed by BivesTour tomorrow along with flight options, if I have them by then.

Cheers and until tomorrow,

Miguel

So I just talked to Lorenzo and came to the conclusion to talk about the trip to Brussels tomorrow in the meeting, decide there on a hotel + flights, and book via a travel agency.

Hi Marvin,

Indeed option 1 looks best. I'll go for that as well. Thank you for spending time on this!

Cheers,

Miguel

okay, I had a look again and now found 4 options. I would probably just book one like today in the evening, it is not getting better and it feels like I am investing too much time on this already. I post all 4, feel free to comment on your preferences. My preference is a bit on 1. just because it is very central, but I guess they are all more or less same, none of them should be bad. All prices are for Sunday to Friday.

1. easyHotel Brussels City Centre very central in the city, ~30 min to uni with one bus, 680 €
2. Le Berger Hotel, out of the ring to the south, closer to uni, like 20 min with one bus, 644 € (only few rooms left)
3. B&B HOTEL Brussels Centre Gare du Midi and 4. Appart'City Confort Bruxelles Centre Gare du Midi, close to the train station, out if the ring to the west, more like 40 min with public transportation and have to changes bus/metro/tram (no idea), 634 € and 675 € resp.

No, I did want to do some physics today (weird, I know) but I will have a look again tommorow.

Regarding flights, I checked with Juan that there are direct flights with Ryanair from SCQ to Brüssel (CRL) (the shitty airport somewhat close to brussels) on the Friday and going back Friday after the meeting. That could be an option in case one wants to come early. But getting from CRL to the city is a bit annoying, buses go for 17€ taking approx 1h.

yes, it makes sense, and provided that there's budget for all of us to stay that extra night, I'm fine with it. We should also book the flights soon. Should we book through a travel agency?

Regarding the hotel, have you found anything else after Ioana's email?

Cheers,

Miguel

one more thing: I was so far always looking for hotels from Sunday to Friday. But the meeting ends Friday at 16:00, so it might be reasonable to go back on Saturday.

I wonder what Ioana understands as good connections. Approx 40 minutes one way from the center feels like quite a lot to me right now. There are closer options like ibis Brussels Centre Chatelain (1) or B&B HOTEL Brussels Centre Louise (2) for ~700€ with like 15 minutes commute. But then we are also further away from city center and dinner places I guess. Not sure whats the better option.

Hi Marvin, hi all

There is (or used to be) a webpage with a table displaying how much money the university covers for housing and meals, per day, and according to the country. For some reason I cannot find this table anywhere, so if someone has it or can find it, I'd much appreciate it. In my mind the price per night should be around ~150 euros. With this in mind I found this alternative hotel: Appart'City Confort Bruxelles Centre Gare du Mindi, which amounts to 658 euros (without breakfast, which is 12.90 a day). Access to the Uni is a bit worse, but still okay, and fairly close to city center. Reviews similar to the ones for the hotels on indico.

I usually let the travel agency book the hotel so that the university pays directly, and I don't have to wait for the reimbursement. Are you thinking of doing this or booking directly?

Cheers,

Miguel

Hola,

brussels meeting is coming closer and closer and we should look for hotels. In slack Ioana said to look for hotels in the center as there is a good connection to the conference place. Some suggestions are on the indico, https://indico.nucleares.unam.mx/event/2038/page/0, right now I only checked Ibis Brussels City Centre which would cost 911 € for one person and 5 nights and NH Brussels Grand Place Arenberg for only 1.179€.  Not sure if this is inside our budget, but this seems to be the general scale on booking.com.

cheers
