The welcome drink will be in Fonseca Cloister on Monday at 19:00. The "Pazo de Fonseca" is a XVI building which houses today the main USC library. The social dinner will be held on Thursday evening, 20:30, at the Parador de Santiago de Compostela, also known as Hostal dos Reis Católicos. This Hostal is a blend of history, art and tradition, the dream of pilgrims and emblem of Santiago. It is located on Obradoiro Square. The hotel was built as a royal hospital in 1499 to accommodate pilgrims traveling to Santiago. Today, it continues to invite visitors to enjoy a city that is as universal as it is fascinating. This Parador Museum is considered the oldest hotel in the world.

Besides, different social activities have been programmed for Thursday afternoon. You will be asked at registration time to choose among the following options:

• Guided tour around the old town, including historical buildings and a special visit to the roofs of the cathedral. The meeting point will be in front of the venue (Auditorium ABANCA, Rúa do Preguntoiro 23), at the end of the session (16:30). Several groups will be assembled. The tour will be in english and will last about 2.5 hours. You will discover the city's essence in the following itinerary, which may be subject to small variations according to the guide:
  

  • Cathedral façades and squares: Praterías, Obradoiro, Quintana and Inmaculada.
  • Casa del Deán (Pilgrims' Office).
  • Colegio de Fonseca (University).
  • Hostal-Parador de los Reyes Católicos.
  • Façades of the Monastery of San Martín Pinario.
  • Casa de la Troya.
  • The Rúas (streets): Franco, Raíña and Vilar.

• Galician wine tasting, an introduction to Galician wines. Let's board on a journey through the five Galician denominations of origin (DO) full of whens and whys about Atlantic flavours, climate and soils. A journey that will take you back on time to Romans and medieval Europe kings and queens. You will learn how wine has transformed Galician landscape and economy, and how grapes and tastes have evolved through history. From the famous Albariño to the most recent plurivarietals from Monterrei, this trip will depart from the rainy coast to the hot inland valleys where wine secrets have been kept for centuries. The wine tasting will be carried out in English at the Abanca Building (Praza de Cervantes) at 16:30.

  • D.O. Rías Baixas: located by the south coast of Galicia, produces the 50% of the total Galician production, mainly white wine. And it is the first world wine producer of Albariño grape.
  • D.O. Ribeiro: the second oldest D.O. in Spain after Rioja has been producing wine since the II century a.C.
  • D.O. Ribeira Sacra: keeps one of the most beautiful wine landscapes in the world, inherited by Romans centuries ago.
  • D.O. Valdeorras: located in one of the hottest valleys of Galicia, produces round and bodied wines.
  • D.O. Monterrei: is the newest and smallest Galician D.O. located at the top of Portugal.
  • A full tasting session of five different wines combining grapes and elaborations.

• Seven-a-side football tournament. The tournament will take place at "Santa Isabel Stadium". Meeting point at 15:30 in the lobby of Auditorium ABANCA (Rúa do Preguntoiro 23).
