It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Arnau Brossa Gonzalo, a postdoctoral researcher at the Galician Institute of High Energy Physics (IGFAE), working on the LHCb experiment, who died in Santiago de Compostela on 21st<\/sup>\u00a0July 2024 following complications from a climbing accident.<\/p>\n

Arnau obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physics at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 2016, specializing in theoretical physics. Afterwards, he undertook a Master in Astrophysics, Particle Physics and Cosmology at UB, with a Master’s thesis on the LHCb experiment. He then continued to his PhD studies (2017-2022) in Particle Physics at the University of Warwick under the supervision of Prof. Tim Gershon and Dr. Thomas Latham. His thesis won the Springer Thesis Prize for outstanding PhD research.<\/p>\n

Following his PhD from the University of Warwick, he joined the LHCb group at IGFAE in 2022 to work further on the LHCb experiment, first as a postdoctoral researcher and later as a Juan de la Cierva researcher. He joined the Lepton Flavour Universality IGFAE group, taking on a leading role.<\/p>\n

Arnau is survived by his mother, Merc\u00e8, his brother David, and his uncle and aunt. His warmth, kindness, dedication, intelligence, and competence will be deeply missed by his many friends at the institute and experiment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
