O traballo publicouse na revista Physica Medica e realizouse no Laboratorio L\u00e1ser de Aceleraci\u00f3n e Aplicaci\u00f3ns (L2A2) da Universidade de Santiago<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Un equipo liderado polo Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE), centro mixto da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC) e a Xunta de Galicia, en colaboraci\u00f3n coa Universidade de Salamanca, conseguiu xerar raios X mediante unha nova tecnolox\u00eda de aceleraci\u00f3n de electr\u00f3ns usando pulsos l\u00e1ser ultracortos. A\u00ednda que antes xa puideran xerar raios X con pulsos l\u00e1ser, esta \u00e9 a primeira vez que foron producidos de forma estable durante longos per\u00edodos de tempo, obtendo as primeiras imaxes tomogr\u00e1ficas con esta nova fonte de raios X. Os resultados do traballo foron publicados recentemente no \u00faltimo n\u00famero da revista <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1120179721000673?dgcid=author#f0005\"><em>Physica Medica<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Esta investigaci\u00f3n real\u00edzase no <a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/~igfae-old\/experiments\/laserpet\/\">Laboratorio L\u00e1ser de Aceleraci\u00f3n e Aplicaci\u00f3ns (L2A2)<\/a> da USC. O L2A2 est\u00e1 equipado cun dos poucos sistemas l\u00e1ser que existen no mundo capaz de producir pulsos l\u00e1ser cunha potencia de 50 teravatios (10<sup>12 <\/sup>vatios, un bill\u00f3n de vatios). Ao focalizar estes pulsos sobre un material x\u00e9ranse campos electromagn\u00e9ticos moi intensos, capaces de acelerar en poucas micras (0,001 mil\u00edmetro) part\u00edculas a gran enerx\u00eda. Esta tecnolox\u00eda permitir\u00e1 constru\u00edr aceleradores de part\u00edculas compactos con aplicaci\u00f3ns m\u00e9dicas no futuro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA vantaxe desta nova tecnolox\u00eda \u00e9 que, ao ter un foco xerador de raios X de dimensi\u00f3n microm\u00e9trica, cons\u00e9guense imaxes de mellor calidade cunha menor cantidade de raios X\u201d, asegura Jos\u00e9 Benlliure, investigador do IGFAE e coautor deste traballo. \u201cAdemais, p\u00f3dese aplicar unha nova t\u00e9cnica de reconstruci\u00f3n da imaxe, radiograf\u00eda por contraste de fase, que permite visualizar materiais de diferente densidade, en particular tecidos biol\u00f3xicos\u201d. Os investigadores do IGFAE puideron aplicar esta nova t\u00e9cnica tanto a radiograf\u00eda convencional como a imaxes tomogr\u00e1ficas en tres dimensi\u00f3ns.<\/p>\n<p>Recentemente, o IGFAE iniciou un proxecto en colaboraci\u00f3n coa Universidade Complutense de Madrid, a Universidade de Salamanca e a empresa Sedecal S.L. para estudar a posibilidade de utilizar esta nova tecnolox\u00eda para desenvolver mam\u00f3grafos de alta precisi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Referencias:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mart\u00edn, J.
