Los rayos c\u00f3smicos con energ\u00edas de bajas a moderadas son bien conocidos, mientras que aqu\u00e9llos con energ\u00edas extremadamente altas siguen siendo muy misteriosos. Al detectar y estudiar estas part\u00edculas raras, el Observatorio Pierre Auger est\u00e1 abordando los enigmas de su origen y existencia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">El Observatorio Auger es un \u00abdetector h\u00edbrido\u00bb que emplea dos m\u00e9todos independientes para detectar y estudiar los rayos c\u00f3smicos de alta energ\u00eda. Una t\u00e9cnica detecta part\u00edculas de alta energ\u00eda a trav\u00e9s de su interacci\u00f3n con el agua colocada en tanques detectores de superficie. La otra t\u00e9cnica rastrea el desarrollo de cascadas de aire mediante la observaci\u00f3n de la luz ultravioleta emitida en las capas altas de la atm\u00f3sfera de la Tierra. La naturaleza h\u00edbrida del Observatorio Pierre Auger proporciona dos formas independientes de ver los rayos c\u00f3smicos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">El grupo de F\u00edsica de Astropart\u00edculas en IGFAE dirigido por el Prof. Enrique Zas ha desempe\u00f1ado un papel relevante desde su incorporaci\u00f3n a la Colaboraci\u00f3n Auger en 2002. Entre las muchas contribuciones de este grupo, cabe mencionar la b\u00fasqueda de neutrinos de ultra alta energ\u00eda y el an\u00e1lisis de cascadas inclinadas. Ambos trabajos han permitido a la colaboraci\u00f3n lograr importantes resultados cient\u00edficos como los dos recientemente galardonados como los Diez avances m\u00e1s importantes del mundo de la f\u00edsica de 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">El grupo de F\u00edsica de Astropart\u00edculas est\u00e1 compuesto por cuatro miembros principales (Jaime \u00c1lvarez-Mu\u00f1iz, Lorenzo Caz\u00f3n, Gonzalo Parente y Enrique Zas), dos investigadores posdoctorales (Marvin Gottowik y Felix Riehn), y cuatro estudiantes de doctorado (Juan Ammerman, Sergio Cabana, Yago Lema y Miguel Martins).
