Estas ondas son oscilaciones en el espacio-tiempo predichas por Einstein hace m\u00e1s de 100 a\u00f1os y observadas por primera vez en septiembre de 2015 por el Observatorio de Ondas Gravitacionales por Interferometr\u00eda L\u00e1ser (LIGO).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Estas primeras detecciones han sido reconocidas por, entre otros, el Premio Especial en F\u00edsica Fundamental en 2016 para las colaboraciones LIGO y Virgo \u00a0\u2013incluidos dos miembros del IGFAE\u00a0\u2013, y el Premio Nobel de F\u00edsica 2017 para tres cient\u00edficos pioneros de LIGO.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Tras la detecci\u00f3n de m\u00e1s de 90 se\u00f1ales de ondas gravitacionales en los tres primeros periodos de observaci\u00f3n de los detectores avanzados LIGO y Virgo hasta 2020, la red de intercambio de datos se ha ampliado con el nuevo detector criog\u00e9nico KAGRA en Jap\u00f3n. La cuarta ronda de observaci\u00f3n comenz\u00f3 en mayo de 2023 con una mayor sensibilidad de la red, y se espera que produzca cientos de detecciones m\u00e1s en los pr\u00f3ximos 15 meses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Despu\u00e9s de haber sido acreditado el IGFAE como Unidad de Excelencia de \u00abMar\u00eda de Maeztu\u00bb en 2017, se identific\u00f3 el estudio de ondas gravitacionales como una l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n con un impacto potencial muy alto, particularmente en relaci\u00f3n con la denominada \u00abastrof\u00edsica multimensajero\u00bb. Esta es una rama de la astrof\u00edsica que tiene como objetivo explotar la detecci\u00f3n de diferentes de tipos de se\u00f1ales (fotones, ondas gravitacionales, rayos c\u00f3smicos, neutrinos) para mejorar y complementar la informaci\u00f3n de las fuentes astrof\u00edsicas. Esta nueva l\u00ednea tambi\u00e9n tiene sinergias con las investigaciones actuales del Instituto, en concreto, con la fuerte participaci\u00f3n te\u00f3rica en muchos aspectos de la gravedad, el uso de ondas gravitacionales como sondas de materia nuclear ultradensa en estrellas de neutrones, as\u00ed como con actividades experimentales en el marco del Observatorio Pierre Auger, el detector de rayos c\u00f3smicos de ultra alta energ\u00eda m\u00e1s grande y preciso del mundo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row full_width=\u00bbstretch_row\u00bb foundry_padding=\u00bbpt0 pb0&#8243;
