{"id":9258,"date":"2021-05-12T14:37:22","date_gmt":"2021-05-12T12:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-ber\/?p=9258"},"modified":"2024-04-12T14:23:11","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T12:23:11","slug":"simulando-colisions-do-lhc-con-computacion-cuantica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/simulando-colisions-do-lhc-con-computacion-cuantica\/","title":{"rendered":"Simulando colisi\u00f3ns do LHC con computaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Un novo traballo liderado polo Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE) prop\u00f3n unha nova estratexia, baseada en computaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica, para simular procesos f\u00edsicos no Gran Colisor de Hadr\u00f3ns (LHC) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O Modelo Est\u00e1ndar (SM) de F\u00edsica de Part\u00edculas \u00e9 a teor\u00eda m\u00e1is exitosa e aceptada para describir as part\u00edculas elementais que compo\u00f1en o universo e a forma na que interaccionan a trav\u00e9s da forza nuclear forte, d\u00e9bil e electromagn\u00e9tica. Na linguaxe do Modelo Est\u00e1ndar, a natureza descr\u00edbese en termos de campos fundamentais que se estenden polo universo. Un campo pode entenderse como a distribuci\u00f3n da temperatura dentro dunha habitaci\u00f3n \u2012o universo\u2012, con lugares onde esta \u00e9 moi alta ou baixa, que corresponden no SM a puntos do Universo onde se atopa unha part\u00edcula. Este modelo foi e segue sendo amplamente probado en varios experimentos distribu\u00eddos por todo o mundo. Quiz\u00e1 o m\u00e1is famoso sexa o Gran Colisor de Hadr\u00f3ns (LHC, polas s\u00faas siglas en ingl\u00e9s) do CERN, en Xenebra, onde en 2012 observouse por primeira vez a \u00faltima peza do Modelo Est\u00e1ndar que faltaba por verificar: o bos\u00f3n de Higgs.<\/p>\n<p>O LHC pon a proba o SM acelerando prot\u00f3ns a unha velocidade pr\u00f3xima \u00e1 da luz nun anel de 27 km para facelos colidir despois. Dado que os prot\u00f3ns est\u00e1n compostos por outras part\u00edculas elementais, rompen tras chocar e producen unha pl\u00e9tora de estados finais \u2012coma se golpe\u00e1semos b\u00f3las de billar a gran velocidade\u2012 que os detectores do LHC miden e comp\u00e1ranse con simulaci\u00f3ns te\u00f3ricas. Esta pr\u00e1ctica foi moi exitosa, pero cando se aumenta a precisi\u00f3n dos datos experimentais, por exemplo, para buscar nova f\u00edsica m\u00e1is al\u00f3 do Modelo Est\u00e1ndar, as capacidades computacionais dos ordenadores actuais son limitadas.<\/p>\n<p>Con todo, como se sinalou por primeira vez no <a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/336\/6085\/1130\">traballo fundacional de Jordan, Lee e Preskill (JLP),<\/a> estas dificultades t\u00e9cnicas poden superarse, en principio, representando os campos asociados \u00e1s part\u00edculas do Modelo Est\u00e1ndar en termos de bits cu\u00e1nticos (<em>qubits<\/em>) e simulando as s\u00faas interacci\u00f3ns mediante un ordenador cu\u00e1ntico. A\u00ednda que este enfoque \u00e9, en teor\u00eda, exponencialmente m\u00e1is r\u00e1pido que o mellor algoritmo de simulaci\u00f3n cl\u00e1sico co\u00f1ecido, a cantidade de <em>qubits<\/em> necesarios supera de sobra o n\u00famero previsto que estar\u00e1 dispo\u00f1ible nos computadores cu\u00e1nticos a curto prazo, o que impide a s\u00faa aplicaci\u00f3n nos pr\u00f3ximos anos. Por iso, \u00e9 moi interesante considerar outros algoritmos cu\u00e1nticos para simular os procesos do LHC nun futuro pr\u00f3ximo.<\/p>\n<p>Agora, un novo estudo publicado recentemente na revista <em><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1103\/PhysRevA.103.042410\">Physical Review A<\/a><\/em> polo investigador\u00a0 predoutoral do IGFAE Jo\u00e3o Barata, xunto con Niklas Mueller (Universidade de Maryland), Andrey Tarasov (Universidade do Estado de Ohio e Centro para as Fronteiras da Ciencia Nuclear na Universidade de Stony Brook) e\u00a0 Raju\u00a0 Venugopalan (Laboratorio Nacional de Brookhaven), prop\u00f3n unha estratexia nova para simular a dispersi\u00f3n de part\u00edculas de alta enerx\u00eda, motivada fisicamente polo modelo de\u00a0 partones de\u00a0 Feynman. Nese modelo, cando os prot\u00f3ns coliden a alta enerx\u00eda, poden verse como un conxunto de part\u00edculas fundamentais menos enerx\u00e9ticas. As\u00ed, en lugar de describir os campos dos prot\u00f3ns en termos de bits cu\u00e1nticos, \u00e9 m\u00e1is sinxelo asignar directamente as part\u00edculas aos graos de liberdade dispo\u00f1ibles no computador cu\u00e1ntico. Por tanto, mentres o n\u00famero de part\u00edculas sexa pequeno, esp\u00e9rase que este enfoque sexa o natural para describir as colisi\u00f3ns producidas no LHC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA\u00ednda que a s\u00faa posta en pr\u00e1ctica require de m\u00e1is recursos que os dispo\u00f1ibles nos ordenadores cu\u00e1nticos actu\u00e1is, ofrece nalg\u00fans aspectos importantes unha vantaxe directa sobre a proposta de JLP para simular a dispersi\u00f3n de alta enerx\u00eda\u201d, explica Jo\u00e3o Barata, quen est\u00e1 realizando a s\u00faa tese doutoral no IGFAE grazas a unha bolsa INPhINIT da Fundaci\u00f3n \u201cla Caixa\u201d. \u201cPor exemplo, utilizando esta \u201cimaxe de part\u00edculas\u201d, o c\u00e1lculo nun computador cu\u00e1ntico \u00e9 notablemente similar aos protocolos de medici\u00f3n utilizados nos detectores do LHC. Ademais, este algoritmo pode aplicarse directamente aos c\u00e1lculos te\u00f3ricos m\u00e1is est\u00e1ndar dos procesos que rexen o Modelo Est\u00e1ndar, polo que esperamos que poida atopar moitas m\u00e1is aplicaci\u00f3ns m\u00e1is al\u00f3 deste traballo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As aplicaci\u00f3ns de computaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica a an\u00e1lise de datos experimentais e c\u00e1lculos te\u00f3ricos en F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas, Astrof\u00edsica e F\u00edsica Nuclear \u00e9 un campo emerxente en todo o mundo, de crecemento exponencialmente r\u00e1pido e con gran interese no IGFAE, onde investigadores est\u00e1n a dirixir os seus esforzos cara aos retos da segunda revoluci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica.<\/p>\n<p>Referencias:<\/p>\n<p>J.
