Arredor desas colisi\u00f3ns sit\u00faanse diversos detectores que funcionan como inmensas c\u00e1maras de fotos capturando o resultado de cada colisi\u00f3n. Estas c\u00e1maras, a\u00ednda que implican desenvolvementos tecnol\u00f3xicos do \u00faltimo nivel, non sempre son quen de &#8220;ver&#8221; absolutamente todo o que sucedeu nas colisi\u00f3ns e poden chegarse a perder detalles.<\/p>\n<p>Unha das misi\u00f3ns fundamentais destes experimentos \u00e9 atopar fen\u00f3menos novos ou imprevistos, Nova F\u00edsica, que nos poidan axudar a entender mellor alg\u00fans dos misterios do Universo. Un deles son as part\u00edculas de longa vida (Long-Lived Particles, LLP), un tipo de part\u00edculas especialmente escorregadizas preditas en diversos modelos te\u00f3ricos que van al\u00e9n do actual Modelo Est\u00e1ndar e que agora poder\u00edan estar un paso m\u00e1is preto de ser detectadas grazas a CODEX- b, un proxecto co-liderado polo Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE), centro mixto de la Xunta de Galicia e a Universidade de Santiago (USC).<\/p>\n<p>CODEX-b \u00e9 un detector proposto para ser instalado a car\u00f3n do experimento LHCb, un dos xigantescos detectores de part\u00edculas do LHC, para atopar as LLPs. Cando chocan os prot\u00f3ns no acelerador, as LLP \u201cvoan\u201d entre uns mil\u00edmetros e varios metros antes de desaparecer, f\u00f3ra do alcance dos detectores existentes que son incapaces de capturalas e reconstru\u00edr a s\u00faa traxectoria. Como paso previo a CODEX-b, o equipo xa est\u00e1 a constru\u00edr o demostrador CODEX-beta, unha versi\u00f3n m\u00e1is pequena e barata do experimento que se espera rematar nos vindeiros dous anos. O seu obxectivo ser\u00e1 medir os fondos, facer an\u00e1lises preliminares e demostrar que a tecnolox\u00eda de detecci\u00f3n de CODEX-b \u00e9 factible.<\/p>\n<p>O IGFAE \u00e9 un dos l\u00edderes do proxecto CODEX-b a partir da participaci\u00f3n do investigador \u201cRam\u00f3n y Cajal\u201d Xabier Cid, &#8220;Coordinador da f\u00edsica&#8221; de CODEX-beta, e de Sa\u00fal L\u00f3pez, estudante que acaba de comezar a s\u00faa tese de doutoramento no experimento. O IGFAE financia CODEX-b a trav\u00e9s do <a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-ber\/job-offer\/1st-call-of-igfae-ignite-program\/\">programa IGNITE<\/a>, unha convocatoria interna de proxectos financiados pola acreditaci\u00f3n Mar\u00eda de Maeztu, e participa en parte da sua construci\u00f3n con as &#8220;c\u00e1maras de placas resistivas&#8221; (RPCs), uns detectores de part\u00edculas gasosos de resposta r\u00e1pida. Ademais do IGFAE, no proxecto participan investigadores de universidades de Estados Unidos e Europa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nova f\u00edsica ao noso alcance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnha das lecci\u00f3ns que aprendemos nos 10 anos que leva funcionando o LHC \u00e9 que debemos non ter preconceptos e ser o m\u00e1is abertos posibles de cara a analizar os datos das colisi\u00f3ns\u201d, explica Xabier Cid. \u201cA Nova F\u00edsica, non prevista no Modelo Est\u00e1ndar, pode estar ao noso alcance, e non debemos deixar ning\u00fan rinc\u00f3n sen explorar\u201d. CODEX-b ten un potencial \u00fanico, e \u00e9 complementar aos experimentos que existen hoxe no CERN.<\/p>\n<p>CODEX-b \u00e9 unha das propostas m\u00e1is prometedoras para atopar LLP ou descartar a s\u00faa existencia nos vindeiros 10 anos.
