{"id":6855,"date":"2020-10-02T10:44:14","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T08:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-ber\/?p=6855"},"modified":"2024-04-12T14:23:01","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T12:23:01","slug":"novas-pistas-sobre-a-orixe-dos-raios-cosmicos-de-ultra-alta-enerxia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/novas-pistas-sobre-a-orixe-dos-raios-cosmicos-de-ultra-alta-enerxia\/","title":{"rendered":"Novas pistas sobre a orixe dos raios c\u00f3smicos de ultra-alta enerx\u00eda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Colaboraci\u00f3n do Observatorio Pierre Auger, na que o IGFAE lidera a participaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola, presenta as medidas m\u00e1is precisas ata a data sobre as part\u00edculas m\u00e1is enerx\u00e9ticas e enigm\u00e1ticas do Universo que axudar\u00edan a esclarecer de onde prove\u00f1en.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Os raios c\u00f3smicos de ultra-alta enerx\u00eda (UHECR, polas s\u00faas siglas en ingl\u00e9s) son as part\u00edculas procedentes do espazo exterior m\u00e1is enerx\u00e9ticas do Universo (ata mais de 10<sup>20<\/sup>\u00a0 eV). Se quix\u00e9semos acelerar unha part\u00edcula para alcanzar esa enerx\u00eda coa tecnolox\u00eda dispo\u00f1ible actualmente, haber\u00eda que escalar o Gran Colisor de Hadr\u00f3ns (LHC) do CERN ao tama\u00f1o da \u00f3rbita de Mercurio. A pesar de ser descubertos en 1961, a\u00ednda non sei sabe con exactitude como se producen e as fontes que os orixinan. Agora, novos datos da Colaboraci\u00f3n Pierre Auger, na que participa o Instituto Galego de F\u00edsicade Altas Ener\u00edas (IGFAE), centro mixto da Universidade de Santiago (USC) e a Xunta de Galicia, revelan cunha precisi\u00f3n sen precedentes unha caracter\u00edstica nova no espectro de enerx\u00eda destes raios c\u00f3smicos e reforza a hip\u00f3tese de que a s\u00faa orixe est\u00e1 en galaxias con alta formaci\u00f3n estelar (<em>starbust\u00a0 galaxies<\/em>) ou n\u00facleos activos de galaxias (AGN). Os resultados public\u00e1ronse recentemente en <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.125.121106\"><em>Physical Review Letters<\/em><\/a> e <em><a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1103\/PhysRevD.102.062005\">Physical Review D<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A Colaboraci\u00f3n Pierre Auger \u00e9 un grupo investigador de aproximadamente 400 persoas de 17 pa\u00edses que opera o observatorio de raios c\u00f3smicos m\u00e1is grande do mundo en Malarg\u00fce, Mendoza (Arxentina). Est\u00e1 composto por m\u00e1is de 1.600 tanques de auga con detectores\u00a0 Cherenkov repartidos nunha extensi\u00f3n de 3.000 km<sup>2<\/sup> , unha superficie enorme xa que o fluxo destas part\u00edculas \u00e9 tan escaso que cada mil anos chega \u00e1 Terra menos dunha por quil\u00f3metro cadrado \u00e1s enerx\u00edas m\u00e1is altas. Observan un tipo de luz \u2012radiaci\u00f3n Cherenkov\u2012 producida pola auga cando \u201cchoivas\u201d de part\u00edculas ou fervenzas producidas polos raios c\u00f3smicos atrav\u00e9sana. Estes detectores complem\u00e9ntanse con 27 telescopios de\u00a0 fluorescencia que captan a luz\u00a0 ultravioleta causada polas fervenzas ao atravesar a atmosfera. Xuntos, proporcionan medici\u00f3ns da enerx\u00eda das fervenzas e medidas indirectas da masa da part\u00edcula primaria. Combinando a informaci\u00f3n sobre o espectro de enerx\u00eda, a composici\u00f3n da masa e a distribuci\u00f3n da direcci\u00f3n de chegada, p\u00f3dense deducir caracter\u00edsticas importantes das posibles fontes que orixinan estas part\u00edculas extraordinarias.<\/p>\n<p>Nos traballos publicados e que analizan os 215.000 eventos recompilados polo Observatorio Pierre Auger ata a data, observouse unha nova caracter\u00edstica do espectro enerx\u00e9tico dos UHECR, que se reflicte nunha lixeira inclinaci\u00f3n da curva ao redor dos 13 \u00d7 10<sup>18 <\/sup>eV. Ese suavizado nesta rexi\u00f3n intermedia (figura 1) poder\u00eda ser consecuencia natural de que a composici\u00f3n de masa dos raios c\u00f3smicos cambia, en funci\u00f3n da enerx\u00eda, de lixeira a pesada. Os resultados poden explicarse con fontes extragal\u00e1cticas de raios c\u00f3smicos distribu\u00eddas de forma relativamente uniforme, que aceleran part\u00edculas a maior enerx\u00eda canto m\u00e1is pesadas. Estes modelos requiren un espectro extremadamente duro \u2012con m\u00e1is cantidade de part\u00edculas de alta enerx\u00eda- e fontes practicamente constantes ao longo do tempo. Neste escenario, ambos os requisitos non concordan coas observaci\u00f3ns de fontes luminosas pr\u00f3ximas en todos os tipos de luz do espectro electromagn\u00e9tico, desde radioondas ata raios gamma.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fervenzas inclinadas e enerx\u00eda invisible<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O equipo do IGFAE, liderado polo profesor da USC Enrique Zas, participou na elaboraci\u00f3n do artigo e liderou a an\u00e1lise de fervenzas ou choivas de part\u00edculas inclinadas, que se utilizou para o establecemento da chamada \u201cenerx\u00eda invisible\u201d, fundamental para a determinaci\u00f3n precisa da enerx\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Espa\u00f1a contribu\u00edu notablemente \u00e1 Colaboraci\u00f3n Pierre Auger en aspectos moi diversos: an\u00e1lise de choivas inclinadas, contido de mu\u00f3ns das fervenzas, natureza das part\u00edculas primarias, aplicaci\u00f3ns de t\u00e9cnicas de aprendizaxe autom\u00e1tica, procura de neutrinos, astronom\u00eda de multimensaxeiros, t\u00e9cnica de fluorescencia e t\u00e9cnica de radio.
