Un d\u00eda despois, a rede detectou un evento nunca antes observado: a posible colisi\u00f3n entre unha estrela de neutr\u00f3ns e un burato negro.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O Observatorio de Ondas Gravitacionais por Interferometr\u00eda L\u00e1ser (LIGO), no que colabora o <a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-ber\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE)<\/a>, instituto mixto da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC) e a Xunta de Galicia, xunto co detector Virgo, rexistrou o 25 de abril ondas gravitacionais dun posible choque entre d\u00faas estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns. Un d\u00eda despois, o 26 de abril, a rede LIGO-Virgo descubriu outra fonte candidata que pode resultar da colisi\u00f3n dunha estrela de neutr\u00f3ns e un burato negro, un evento nunca antes observado.<\/p>\n<p>Os descubrimentos prod\u00facense poucas semanas despois de que <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ligo.caltech.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LIGO<\/a> e <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virgo-gw.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Virgo<\/a> volv\u00e9ronse a po-\u00f1er en funcionamento. Os detectores xemelgos de LIGO, un en Washington e outro en Louisia-na en Estados Unidos, xunto con Virgo, situados no Observatorio Gravitacional Europeo (EGO) en Italia, renovaron as s\u00faas operaci\u00f3ns o 1 de abril tras unha serie de melloras para aumentar a s\u00faa sensibilidade \u00e1s ondas gravitacionais. Agora cada detector estuda volumes m\u00e1is grandes do Universo \u2014distancias m\u00e1is afastadas- en busca de eventos extremos como colisi\u00f3ns entre buratos negros e estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns.<\/p>\n<p>Ademais dos dous novos candidatos que involucran \u00e1s estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns, a rede LIGO-Virgo descubriu nesta \u00faltima observaci\u00f3n tres posibles fusi\u00f3ns de buratos negros. En total, desde que se fixo a primeira detecci\u00f3n directa de ondas gravitacionais en 2015, a rede atopou evidencia de d\u00faas fusi\u00f3ns de estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns, 13 fusi\u00f3ns de buratos negros, e unha posible fusi\u00f3n entre unha estrela de neutr\u00f3ns e un burato negro.<\/p>\n<p>Cando dous buratos negros chocan, deforman o tecido espazo-temporal, producindo ondas gravitacionais. Non obstante, cando d\u00faas estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns chocan, non s\u00f3 env\u00edan ondas gravitacionais, sen\u00f3n tam\u00e9n luz que pode ser observada por telescopios terrestres e espaciais. Un destes eventos ocorreu en agosto de 2017: LIGO e Virgo detectaron unha fusi\u00f3n de estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns en ondas gravitacionais e nos d\u00edas e meses seguintes, preto de 70 telescopios observaron este evento en todo o espectro elctromagn\u00e9tico, desde os raios gamma ata as ondas de radio. No caso do choque entre as d\u00faas estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns, telescopios de todo o mundo apresur\u00e1ronse a rastrexar as fontes e captar luz \u2014a contrapartida \u00f3ptica- e outras radiaci\u00f3ns que se esperaban deste tipo de fusi\u00f3ns, pero ata este momento ningunha das fontes foi identificada.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Posible colisi\u00f3n entre unha estrela de neutr\u00f3ns e un burato negro<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A colisi\u00f3n da estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns do 25 de abril, denominada S190425z, produciuse a uns 500 mill\u00f3ns de anos luz da Terra. S\u00f3 unha das instalaci\u00f3ns xemelgas de LIGO captou o seu sinal xunto con Virgo (LIGO Livingston foi testemu\u00f1a do evento, pero LIGO Hanford estaba desconectado). Debido a que s\u00f3 dous dos tres detectores rexistraron o sinal, non se puido situar con precisi\u00f3n a s\u00faa localizaci\u00f3n e a procura debe realizarse nunha rexi\u00f3n moi grande correspondente a case a cuarta parte do ceo.<\/p>\n<p>A posible colisi\u00f3n do burato negro e a estrela de neutr\u00f3ns do 26 de abril, denominado S190426 c, tivo lugar a aproximadamente 1,2 mil mill\u00f3ns de anos luz de distancia. Foi observado polas tres instalaci\u00f3ns de LIGO-Virgo, o que axudou a restrinxir a s\u00faa localizaci\u00f3n nunha \u00e1rea que cobre o 3% do ceo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ondas gravitacionais desde Galicia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O Grupo de Ondas Gravitacionais do IGFAE \u00e9 o m\u00e1is recente dos cinco grupos espa\u00f1ois que estudan o Universo nesta nova xanela da Astronom\u00eda, sum\u00e1ndose en outubro de 2018 \u00e1 Cola-boraci\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica de LIGO na que tam\u00e9n participa a Universitat de lles Illes Balears (UIB). Os tres grupos restantes da Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia (UV), o Institut de Ci\u00e8nces del Cosmos da Uni-versitat de Barcelona (ICCUB) e o Institut de F\u00edsica d&#8217; Altes Energies (IFAE) son membros da Co-laboraci\u00f3n Virgo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nota de prensa de LIGO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ligo.caltech.edu\/news\/ligo20190502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.ligo.caltech.edu\/news\/ligo20190502<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Imaxe: simulaci\u00f3n dunha fusi\u00f3n de estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns. Arriba \u00e1 esquerda, en sentido horario, as d\u00faas estrelas de neutr\u00f3ns (coloreadas en branco) viran unha ao redor da outra en espiral ata que se contactan e fusi\u00f3nanse nunha \u00fanica estrela de neutr\u00f3ns masiva. Parte do material (coloreado segundo a s\u00faa densidade) contamina os arredores, formando un disco de acreci\u00f3n. Toda a secuencia dura 0,03 segundos. Na maior\u00eda dos casos, a estrela de neutr\u00f3ns masiva non pode soportar a s\u00faa propia gravidade por moito tempo e finalmente colapsa nun burato negro.
