Isto sup\u00f3n un paso clave para demostrar a capacidade de busca desta nova clase de detectores, centrados na procura dos denominados como \u201csectores escuros\u201d, part\u00edculas e campos al\u00e9n do Modelo Est\u00e1ndar que co\u00f1ecemos ata agora, e que son fuxid\u00edos para os actuais sistemas de detecci\u00f3n do LHC.<\/p>\n<p>Estes sectores ocultos poder\u00edan dar resposta a alg\u00fan dos grandes enigmas que persisten na f\u00edsica, como a composici\u00f3n da materia escura, a orixe da asimetr\u00eda materia\u2011antimateria do universo, ou a naturalidade do baleiro electrod\u00e9bil.<\/p>\n<p>CODEX\u2011b (acr\u00f3nimo de COmpact Detector for EXotics at LHCb) foi proposto en 2017 por unha colaboraci\u00f3n de catro cient\u00edficos do Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, da Universidade de Cincinnati e do LPNHE de Par\u00eds. Desde ent\u00f3n, a colaboraci\u00f3n medrou ata m\u00e1is de 60 membros en 20 instituci\u00f3ns de todo o mundo. E <a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/codex-b-un-novo-experimento-do-igfae-para-detectar-particulas-de-longa-vida-no-cern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galicia, a trav\u00e9s do IGFAE<\/a> e da Universidade da Coru\u00f1a, conta cun papel relevante nesta colaboraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Por parte do IGFAE, o equipo est\u00e1 liderado por Xabier Cid, coordinador de f\u00edsica do proxecto, e nel tam\u00e9n participan Miguel Fern\u00e1ndez G\u00f3mez, Alberto Mart\u00ednez Armas, Pablo Men\u00e9ndez-Vald\u00e9s, Alejandro Novo Cal, Mar\u00eda Pereira Mart\u00ednez, Emilio Xos\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez Fern\u00e1ndez e Alejandro Rodr\u00edguez Gonz\u00e1lez. As contribuci\u00f3ns por parte da UDC tam\u00e9n tiveron un impacto cr\u00edtico, cun equipo liderado por Carlos V\u00e1zquez Sierra, coordinador do desenvolvemento de software e coordinador adxunto de f\u00edsica do proxecto; e Titus Momb\u00e4cher, coordinador t\u00e9cnico de CODEX-b.<\/p>\n<p>Neste sentido, a colaboraci\u00f3n entre ambos grupos do IGFAE da USC e a UDC foi clave para cumprir coas datas l\u00edmite necesarias para a toma de datos antes da finalizaci\u00f3n do Run 3, o \u00faltimo per\u00edodo de toma de datos do LHC, a finais de xu\u00f1o de 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mover o foco cara \u00e1s \u2018part\u00edculas de vida longa\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O prop\u00f3sito de CODEX-b \u00e9 po\u00f1er o foco nas part\u00edculas de vida longa, que adoitan situarse lonxe dos puntos de colisi\u00f3n cara a onde miran os detectores do LHC. A clave do experimento \u00e9 un ambiente especial \u201cactivamente blindado e de fondo cero\u201d, onde s\u00f3 poden aparecer estas part\u00edculas ocultas de vida longa antes de desintegrarse.<\/p>\n<p>A colaboraci\u00f3n traballa actualmente co prototipo CODEX\u2011beta, unha versi\u00f3n a escala 1:5 de CODEX\u2011b, cun volume aproximado de 2m\u00b3. O seu prop\u00f3sito principal \u00e9 tomar medidas cr\u00edticas necesarias para dese\u00f1ar a blindaxe activa do detector de tama\u00f1o completo e optimizar o concepto do detector, que tam\u00e9n se emprega noutros dispositivos propostos para part\u00edculas de vida longa. CODEX\u2011beta, a pesar do seu pequeno tama\u00f1o, tam\u00e9n pode explorar alg\u00fans escenarios novos de nova f\u00edsica.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Long Lived Particles: a new way to dephicer the universe\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V4Y7H_H2lKM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Emilio X. Rodr\u00edguez, un dos investigadores do IGFAE que participa no proceso, destaca: \u201cA instalaci\u00f3n do demostrador CODEX-beta \u00e9 un fito sen precedentes, destacando \u00a0a colaboraci\u00f3n transversal dun amplo grupo de investigadores que, a\u00ednda procedendo de diferentes contextos, \u00fanense na consecuci\u00f3n dun obxectivo com\u00fan. Estamos diante dunha oportunidade \u00fanica para facer f\u00edsica de forma diferente e, por que non, resolver un paradigma da f\u00edsica actual como \u00e9 a materia escura\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDese\u00f1ar e constru\u00edr este prototipo foi un esforzo tremendo dun pequeno grupo de f\u00edsicos experimentais, te\u00f3ricos e enxe\u00f1eiros, moitos dos cales cederon o seu tempo libre ao proxecto\u201d, destaca Philip Ilten, profesor na Universidade de Cincinnati e portavoz do experimento. \u201cOs datos deste prototipo ser\u00e1n esenciais para facer realidade este tipo de concepto de detector, demostrando que realmente podemos buscar nova f\u00edsica deste xeito\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>De ser aprobado polo CERN, o experimento CODEX\u2011b de tama\u00f1o completo, duns 10 m\u00b3 de volume, instalarase xunto ao detector LHCb, dentro da caverna do punto de interacci\u00f3n 8 do LHC. O detector, que utilizar\u00eda unha tecnolox\u00eda dese\u00f1ada para o experimento ATLAS, poder\u00eda explorar unha gama moi ampla de escenarios de Nova F\u00edsica, que van desde part\u00edculas tipo axi\u00f3n ou lept\u00f3ns neutros pesados, ata part\u00edculas escalares lixeiras que se acoplan ao bos\u00f3n de Higgs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA\u00ednda que as part\u00edculas de vida longa que CODEX\u2011b buscar\u00e1 son bastante lixeiras en masa comparadas co bos\u00f3n de Higgs, estar preto dun punto de colisi\u00f3n do LHC permite ao experimento explorar interacci\u00f3ns ex\u00f3ticas co propio bos\u00f3n de Higgs\u201d, explica o investigador do IGFAE Xabier Cid. \u201cEntender como interact\u00faa o Higgs poder\u00eda estar no n\u00facleo de moitos problemas abertos na f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas hoxe, as\u00ed que superar este fito \u00e9 realmente emocionante para CODEX\u2011beta\u201d, resume.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Foi una inmensa experiencia, e un gran logro, ser capaces de constru\u00edr e po\u00f1er en marcha o prototipo CODEX-\u03b2. O seu \u00e9xito demostra o funcionamento dun concepto completamente novo para buscar nova f\u00edsica&#8221;, comenta o investigador da UDC Titus Momb\u00e4cher.
