Unha das citas salientables ser\u00e1 o congreso internacional <a href=\"https:\/\/indico.cern.ch\/event\/1561367\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Invisibles 26<\/strong><\/a>, un encontro que xirar\u00e1 arredor da investigaci\u00f3n sobre os elementos m\u00e1is desco\u00f1ecidos do universo, como os neutrinos ou a materia escura. A cita, que se celebrar\u00e1 do 10 ao 14 de agosto na sede de Afundaci\u00f3n, no centro da Coru\u00f1a, contar\u00e1 cun invitado salientable: Takaaki Kajita, Nobel de F\u00edsica en 2015, ofrecer\u00e1 a conferencia inaugural, na ma\u00f1\u00e1 do luns 10.<\/p>\n<p>Kajita, descubridor das oscilaci\u00f3ns de neutrinos, foi un dos promotores dos experimentos Super-Kamiokande e Hyper-Kamiokande, desenvolvidos no Xap\u00f3n, que buscan entender mellor a natureza destas fuxid\u00edas part\u00edculas. O IGFAE, a trav\u00e9s de Jos\u00e9 \u00c1ngel Hernando Morata, Pablo Fern\u00e1ndez Men\u00e9ndez (investigador Ram\u00f3n e Cajal), e Diego Costas Rodr\u00edguez (estudante de doutoramento), traballa en ambos os proxectos.<\/p>\n<p>Invisibles 26 reunir\u00e1 durante toda a semana a alg\u00fans dos referentes cient\u00edficos no estudo dos neutrinos, como Francis Halzen (l\u00edder do experimento IceCube). O congreso enm\u00e1rcase no proxecto europeo ASYMMETRY, financiado polo programa Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Staff Exchange da Uni\u00f3n Europea, co obxectivo de fomentar a colaboraci\u00f3n internacional, intersectorial e interdisciplinar en investigaci\u00f3n e innovaci\u00f3n mediante o intercambio temporal de persoal investigador. O investigador do IGFAE Jos\u00e9 \u00c1ngel Hernando Morata forma parte do comit\u00e9 organizador local.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>O IGFAE en Hyper-Kamiokande <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Desde hai anos, persoal do IGFAE participa en diversos proxectos para a detecci\u00f3n de neutrinos, como NEXT (no Laboratorio Subterr\u00e1neo de Canfranc, no Pirineo Aragon\u00e9s), ou HERON, un observatorio proxectado en Arxentina, e que recibiu financiamento do programa Synergy Grant do European Research Council. Outro dos proxectos futuros \u00e9 o de <a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/experimento\/hyper-kamiokande\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hyper-Kamiokande (Hyper-K), que ser\u00e1 o maior experimento subterr\u00e1neo ata a data para o estudo dos neutrinos.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hyper-K suceder\u00e1 a Kamiokande (1983-1996) e Super-Kamiokande (1996-actualidade), dous experimentos co mesmo prop\u00f3sito que funcionaron durante as \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, e que achegaron grandes fitos na f\u00edsica de neutrinos. Entre outros reco\u00f1ecementos, os achados aqu\u00ed realizados foron reco\u00f1ecidos cos premios Nobel de F\u00edsica en 2002 (Masatoshi Koshiba) e 2015 (Takaaki Kajita).<\/p>\n<p>O elemento m\u00e1is salientable \u00e9 un enorme tanque subterr\u00e1neo de 68 metros de di\u00e1metro e 71 de altura \u2014tan alto como as torres da Praza do Obradoiro e case tan ancho como a nave da Catedral de Santiago\u2014, que se encher\u00e1 con 260.000 toneladas de auga ultrapura. As paredes estar\u00e1n cubertas por m\u00e1is de 20.000 tubos fotomultiplicadores, capaces de detectar a luz que emitir\u00edan os neutrinos ao interactuar coas mol\u00e9culas de auga.<\/p>\n<p>Grazas ao seu maior tama\u00f1o e sensibilidade, Hyper-K obter\u00e1 un gran volume de datos que permitir\u00e1 a medida moi precisa das caracter\u00edsticas dos neutrinos e da s\u00faa importancia na descrici\u00f3n do universo que nos rodea. Esp\u00e9rase que Hyper-K permita detectar un maior n\u00famero de neutrinos e obter datos moito m\u00e1is precisos, entre os que destaca a posible observaci\u00f3n da violaci\u00f3n CP nestas part\u00edculas. O inicio da toma de datos est\u00e1 previsto para 2028.<\/p>\n<p>O equipo do IGFAE encargarase, en concreto, da construci\u00f3n de fontes radioactivas de calibraci\u00f3n, do desenvolvemento de algoritmos de reconstruci\u00f3n e de redes neurais para a an\u00e1lise de sucesos, do estudo das oscilaci\u00f3ns dos neutrinos atmosf\u00e9ricos, da detecci\u00f3n de neutrinos procedentes de supernovas e da procura de f\u00edsica m\u00e1is al\u00f3 do modelo est\u00e1ndar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOs neutrinos son unha peza clave para entender a natureza ao seu nivel m\u00e1is fundamental\u201d, explica Pablo Fern\u00e1ndez. \u201cA\u00ednda que son moi abundantes, a s\u00faa d\u00e9bil interacci\u00f3n coa materia fai que os detectores te\u00f1an que ser xigantescos e operar durante moitos anos.
