{"id":23203,"date":"2026-04-07T09:59:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T07:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/?p=23203"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:18:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T08:18:37","slug":"incorporacion-experimento-cms-do-cern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/incorporacion-experimento-cms-do-cern\/","title":{"rendered":"O IGFAE s\u00famase ao experimento CMS do CERN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>O Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE), centro mixto da USC e a Xunta de Galicia, acaba de incorporarse oficialmente ao <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.cern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">experimento CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) do CERN<\/a>, unha das principais colaboraci\u00f3ns dentro da Organizaci\u00f3n Europea para a Investigaci\u00f3n Nuclear. O CMS, xunto ao experimento ATLAS, foi o responsable de observar en 2012 o bos\u00f3n de Higgs, un dos maiores fitos da f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas nas \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p>A portavoz de CMS, Anadi Canepa, comunicou a decisi\u00f3n ao director do IGFAE, Carlos A. Salgado, logo de ser aprobada polo equipo de goberno do experimento nas pasadas semanas. Deste xeito p\u00e9chase un proceso iniciado na primavera de 2025, que inclu\u00edu unha visita de varias responsables de CMS a Santiago de Compostela en novembro, entre elas Anadi Canepa, para co\u00f1ecer de preto as novas instalaci\u00f3ns do IGFAE e s\u00faas as capacidades cient\u00edficas e t\u00e9cnicas.<\/p>\n<p>O equipo do IGFAE en CMS estar\u00e1 liderado polo investigador Xabier Cid Vidal, tam\u00e9n profesor titular na USC. \u201cA incorporaci\u00f3n do IGFAE a CMS sup\u00f3n un fito para Galicia, xa que se trata dunha das maiores colaboraci\u00f3ns cient\u00edficas do mundo\u201d, destaca. \u201c\u00c9 un experimento de prop\u00f3sito xeral, que ten asegurada a s\u00faa toma de datos ata a d\u00e9cada de 2040, o cal garante a permanencia do IGFAE no LHC para as futuras xeraci\u00f3ns de f\u00edsicos e f\u00edsicas\u201d, engade Xabier Cid.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23211\" style=\"width: 1610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23211\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23211\" src=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/Xabier-Cid_CMS.jpg\" alt=\"Xabier Cid liderar\u00e1 o traballo do IGFAE no CMS, que cont\u00e9n o maior im\u00e1n solenoide xamais constru\u00eddo. Cr\u00e9dito das imaxes (V\u00edctor D\u00edaz D\u00edaz \/ Samuel Hertzog &#8211; CERN).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A incorporaci\u00f3n a CMS permitir\u00e1 tam\u00e9n o reforzo do equipo do IGFAE, abrindo novas e prometedoras oportunidades ao persoal egresado do Instituto, mais tam\u00e9n para a captaci\u00f3n de talento externo que estea traballando en CMS desde outras instituci\u00f3ns.<\/p>\n<p>No \u00e1mbito cient\u00edfico, o IGFAE contribuir\u00e1 a CMS na procura das co\u00f1ecidas como \u2018part\u00edculas de vida longa\u2019 (LLPs) e a detecci\u00f3n de part\u00edculas de sectores escuros, as\u00ed como na contribuci\u00f3n da f\u00edsica de sabores estra\u00f1os (strange-flavour physics). Tam\u00e9n achegar\u00e1 a s\u00faa bagaxe te\u00f3rica en estudos de fenomenolox\u00eda e estratexias de an\u00e1lise.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Part\u00edculas de longa vida: unha nova v\u00eda para descifrar o universo\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8Yt04HaDLZU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Desde a perspectiva m\u00e1is t\u00e9cnica, o centro galego achegar\u00e1 os seus co\u00f1ecementos de computaci\u00f3n en tempo real; en <em>trigger<\/em> (os sistemas que permiten decidir que colisi\u00f3ns de part\u00edculas deben ser consideradas para an\u00e1lise); a I+D de detectores ou os m\u00e9todos de aprendizaxe autom\u00e1tica (<em>machine learning<\/em>) para a clasificaci\u00f3n, reconstruci\u00f3n e simulaci\u00f3n de sinais.<\/p>\n<p>A entrada do Instituto en CMS as\u00e9ntase na longa experiencia que o IGFAE atesoura nos mencionados \u00e1mbitos de traballo, logo de d\u00e9cadas participando no experimento LHCb, outra das principais colaboraci\u00f3ns do CERN, onde o Instituto lidera a representaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sobre a colaboraci\u00f3n CMS e o seu detector<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A colaboraci\u00f3n CMS re\u00fane a m\u00e1is de 6.000 persoas (sumando persoal investigador, t\u00e9cnico, de enxe\u00f1ar\u00eda e de computaci\u00f3n) de m\u00e1is de 50 pa\u00edses, representando a m\u00e1is de 250 instituci\u00f3ns e universidades. Estas cifras conv\u00e9rtena nunha das maiores colaboraci\u00f3ns cient\u00edficas da historia da ciencia.<\/p>\n<p>Este equipo enc\u00e1rgase de operar e recoller datos do seu detector, o Compact Muon Solenoid, co obxectivo de dar resposta \u00e1s inc\u00f3gnitas que a\u00ednda permanecen arredor do Modelo Est\u00e1ndar da F\u00edsica de Part\u00edculas ou a posible existencia da materia escura.<\/p>\n<p>O detector CMS est\u00e1 instalado arredor do maior im\u00e1n solenoide xamais constru\u00eddo, cun campo de 4 teslas, unhas 100.000 veces maior que o campo magn\u00e9tico da terra. Este campo est\u00e1 confinado por un \u2018xugo\u2019 de aceiro que conforma a meirande parte do peso do detector (en total, 14.000 toneladas). Mide 21 metros de lonxitude, 15 de ancho e 15 de alto.<\/p>\n<p>Deste xeito, funciona como unha enorme c\u00e1mara de alt\u00edsima velocidade, tomando imaxes en tres dimensi\u00f3ns das colisi\u00f3ns de part\u00edculas, que se producen nunha cantidade de ata 40 mill\u00f3ns de veces cada segundo.
