En 2025 obtivo a prestixiosa bolsa Starting Grant do Consello Europeo de Investigaci\u00f3n (ERC), <a href=\"https:\/\/cabcorquantum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">para un proxecto financiado con 1,9 mill\u00f3ns de euros<\/a>. O obxectivo da s\u00faa investigaci\u00f3n \u00e9 constru\u00edr un simulador cu\u00e1ntico para comprender como interaccionan moitos \u00e1tomos entre si, e como esas relaci\u00f3ns poden dar lugar a novos estados da materia que poder\u00edan inspirar futuras tecnolox\u00edas cu\u00e1nticas.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Unha \u201cmaqueta\u201d para entender o mundo cu\u00e1ntico<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>O traballo do Dr. Cabrera c\u00e9ntrase en atrapar, manipular e arrefriar \u00e1tomos individuais ata temperaturas extremadamente baixas, pr\u00f3ximas ao cero absoluto. \u201cA estas temperaturas \u2013explica- acontece algo especial: os efectos da f\u00edsica cu\u00e1ntica, que normalmente non percibimos na nosa vida coti\u00e1, pasan a dominar o comportamento da materia\u201d. Desta maneira \u201cpodemos observar fen\u00f3menos que parecen sacados da ciencia ficci\u00f3n e explorar directamente como funciona o mundo cu\u00e1ntico\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>O investigador pon un exemplo: \u201cImaxina que queremos entender como funciona un material moi complexo, que poida conducir electricidade sen perda de enerx\u00eda, un supercondutor\u201d. Aqu\u00ed, a simulaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica ofrece vantaxes respecto \u00e1 observaci\u00f3n directa: \u201cEn vez de estudar directamente ese material, onde mill\u00f3ns de part\u00edculas interaccionan entre si e de forma moi dif\u00edcil de observar, podemos constru\u00edr unha \u2018maqueta cu\u00e1ntica\u2019 no laboratorio usando \u00e1tomos ultrafr\u00edos\u201d. Desta maneira, \u201ccando arrefriamos os \u00e1tomos, somos capaces de colocalos e controlalos con gran precisi\u00f3n, para as\u00ed poder recrear as mesmas regras f\u00edsicas e observar paso a paso como se comporta o sistema\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Creando estes simuladores, engade o Dr. Cabrera, \u201cpodemos explorar fen\u00f3menos que resultan moi dif\u00edciles de calcular nunha computadora convencional, o que nos axuda a entender mellor propiedades como o magnetismo ou a supercondutividade, e tam\u00e9n a descubrir novos estados da materia que a\u00ednda non co\u00f1ecemos\u201d. A longo prazo, concl\u00fae, \u201ceste co\u00f1ecemento pode inspirar novas tecnolox\u00edas cu\u00e1nticas: desde materiais m\u00e1is eficientes ata sensores extremadamente precisos\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Unha nova li\u00f1a de investigaci\u00f3n no IGFAE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A incorporaci\u00f3n de C\u00e9sar Cabrera enm\u00e1rcase na aposta do IGFAE por unha nova li\u00f1a de investigaci\u00f3n en ciencia e tecnolox\u00eda cu\u00e1nticas, e sup\u00f3n tam\u00e9n un reto para o propio f\u00edsico. \u201cA mi\u00f1a elecci\u00f3n ten tam\u00e9n unha motivaci\u00f3n moi persoal. Non s\u00f3 busco desenvolver o meu proxecto nun instituto de excelencia, sen\u00f3n tam\u00e9n constru\u00edr algo desde cero: abrir unha li\u00f1a de investigaci\u00f3n en \u00e1tomos ultrafr\u00edos e simulaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica, e formar a estudantes e novos investigadores nesta \u00e1rea emerxente\u201d, apunta.<\/p>\n<p>Neste sentido, menciona a aposta que se est\u00e1 realizando en Galicia por esta disciplina, con iniciativas como o <a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/quantum-computing-lab-igfae-cesga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quantum Computing Lab, impulsado polo propio IGFAE e o CESGA<\/a> (Centro de Supercomputaci\u00f3n de Galicia). \u201cIlusi\u00f3name a idea de contribu\u00edr a que Galicia sexa un lugar onde se fai ciencia de vangarda en tecnolox\u00edas cu\u00e1nticas, e a Universidade de Santiago de Compostela ofrece unha contorna acad\u00e9mica moi rica e unha comunidade de estudantes con moito talento, con quen espero constru\u00edr este proxecto a longo prazo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ademais, o investigador destaca a axenda cient\u00edfica do IGFAE como outra das raz\u00f3ns para decantarse por Galicia. \u201c\u00c9 un centro cun ambiente cient\u00edfico moi din\u00e1mico, aberto e colaborativo, ideal para desenvolver proxectos ambiciosos e crear novas ideas nun contexto internacional\u201d. Apunta C\u00e9sar Cabrera que \u201co feito de que o IGFAE non estea centrado exclusivamente en tecnolox\u00edas cu\u00e1nticas \u00e9 precisamente algo que me resulta moi atractivo, xa que me permite entrar en contacto con \u00e1reas da f\u00edsica distintas \u00e1 mi\u00f1a experiencia previa e aprender novos conceptos, pensando de forma diferente, \u2018f\u00f3ra da caixa\u2019, combinar ideas de distintos campos e, en \u00faltima instancia, tentar facer algo realmente novo que impulse a ciencia\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Biograf\u00eda de C\u00e9sar Cabrera<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>C\u00e9sar Cabrera C\u00f3rdova \u00e9 f\u00edsico experimental e est\u00e1 especializado no estudo de gases cu\u00e1nticos ultrafr\u00edos e simulaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica. A s\u00faa investigaci\u00f3n c\u00e9ntrase en atrapar, arrefriar e manipular \u00e1tomos individuais para estudar fen\u00f3menos complexos da f\u00edsica cu\u00e1ntica en sistemas altamente controlados. Desta maneira, estes sistemas util\u00edzanse como simuladores cu\u00e1nticos, para recrear e comprender como emerxen novas propiedades da materia cando moitas part\u00edculas interact\u00faan entre si.<\/p>\n<p>O Dr. Cabrera estudou F\u00edsica na Universidade Aut\u00f3noma de San Lu\u00eds Potos\u00ed (M\u00e9xico), e posteriormente cursou unha mestr\u00eda na Universidade de Bonn (Alema\u00f1a). Desenvolveu a s\u00faa tese doutoral no ICFO (Instituto de Ciencias Fot\u00f3nicas) de Barcelona, onde participou en experimentos pioneiros con gases cu\u00e1nticos ultrafr\u00edos, inclu\u00edndo a primeira observaci\u00f3n dun condensado de Bose-Einstein en Espa\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1is tarde, incorporouse como investigador postdoutoral no Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics en M\u00fanic, e no Instituto de F\u00edsica Cu\u00e1ntica en Hamburgo, onde o seu traballo enfocouse no estudo de sistemas cu\u00e1nticos fortemente correlacionados e no desenvolvemento de t\u00e9cnicas de microscop\u00eda para observar e manipular \u00e1tomos individuais.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>C\u00e9sar Cabrera, f\u00edsico experimental mexicano procedente da Universidade de Hamburgo (Alema\u00f1a), incorp\u00f3rase ao IGFAE para desenvolver un proxecto de simulaci\u00f3n cu\u00e1ntica con \u00e1tomos ultrafr\u00edos.
