{"id":20599,"date":"2025-06-12T14:44:43","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T12:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/?p=20599"},"modified":"2025-08-19T14:11:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T12:11:24","slug":"santiago-acolle-unha-reunion-para-desenar-o-futuro-detector-velo-do-experimento-lhcb-do-cern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/santiago-acolle-unha-reunion-para-desenar-o-futuro-detector-velo-do-experimento-lhcb-do-cern\/","title":{"rendered":"Santiago acolle unha reuni\u00f3n para dese\u00f1ar o futuro detector VELO do experimento LHCb do CERN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Desde o 11 ata o 13 de xu\u00f1o, m\u00e1is de 40 investigadores e investigadoras re\u00fanense na Facultade de Ciencias Pol\u00edticas da USC para dese\u00f1ar a nova actualizaci\u00f3n (Upgrade 2) do detector de v\u00e9rtices (VELO) do<a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/experimento\/lhcb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> experimento LHCb<\/a>, unha das principais colaboraci\u00f3ns do CERN (Organizaci\u00f3n Europea para a Investigaci\u00f3n Nuclear.<\/p>\n<p>O <a href=\"https:\/\/indico.cern.ch\/event\/1535828\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evento, organizado polo IGFAE,<\/a> conta coa participaci\u00f3n de persoal experto do propio CERN, o Instituto de F\u00edsica Subat\u00f3mica de \u00c1msterdam (Nikhef) e universidades como as de Oxford, Mil\u00e1n, Cagliari, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Frascati, Warwick, R\u00edo de Janeiro, ademais do Centro Nacional de Microelectr\u00f3nica (CNM-CSIC) e outras instituci\u00f3ns.<\/p>\n<p>As xornadas c\u00e9ntranse no desenvolvemento do novo VELO, abordando o I+D+i necesario en sensores de silicio, dese\u00f1o de chips, mec\u00e1nica, refrixeraci\u00f3n e electr\u00f3nica do detector, co obxectivo de trazar un calendario de traballo e as principais decisi\u00f3ns tecnol\u00f3xicas que se tomar\u00e1n nos vindeiros anos a este respecto.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sobre LHCb e VELO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>O experimento LHCb estuda a asimetr\u00eda entre materia e antimateria a trav\u00e9s do quark b (beauty). Forma parte do Gran Colisionador de Hadr\u00f3ns (LHC), situado na fronteira franco-su\u00edza baixo a sede do CERN, e conta coa participaci\u00f3n dunhas 1.800 persoas de mais de 100 instituci\u00f3ns en 24 pa\u00edses.<\/p>\n<p>O IGFAE \u00e9 membro fundador de LHCb e o centro de investigaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ol con maior implicaci\u00f3n no proxecto, liderando tarefas crave como a construci\u00f3n do Silicon Tracker, o VELO, a an\u00e1lise de datos e a futura actualizaci\u00f3n do experimento (Upgrade II).<\/p>\n<p>O detector VELO mide con alta precisi\u00f3n os v\u00e9rtices primarios (colisi\u00f3n de prot\u00f3ns) e secundarios (decaemento de part\u00edculas como os hadr\u00f3ns B, que conte\u00f1en quarks b). Dado que estas part\u00edculas te\u00f1en vidas moi curtas, VELO sit\u00faa os seus sensores de silicio a s\u00f3 5 mm do feixe. Para evitar danos, os sensores mant\u00e9\u00f1ense afastados durante a inxecci\u00f3n do feixe e ach\u00e9ganse unha vez estabilizado. A\u00ednda que os hadr\u00f3ns B non se detectan directamente, a s\u00faa presenza poden inferirse cunha precisi\u00f3n inferior a 10 micras grazas \u00e1s melloras tecnol\u00f3xicas desenvolvidas por equipos como o do IGFAE.<\/p>\n<p>O IGFAE conta coa acreditaci\u00f3n como Unidade de Excelencia Mar\u00eda de Maeztu, outorgada pola Axencia Estatal de Investigaci\u00f3n do Goberno de Espa\u00f1a. Forma tam\u00e9n parte da rede CIGUS da Xunta de Galicia, que acredita a calidade e impacto da s\u00faa investigaci\u00f3n.
