{"id":17626,"date":"2024-06-05T13:18:06","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T11:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-copia\/?p=15638"},"modified":"2024-12-30T09:12:16","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T08:12:16","slug":"equipo-igfae-carbono-11-imaxe-medica-laser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/equipo-igfae-carbono-11-imaxe-medica-laser\/","title":{"rendered":"Un equipo do IGFAE consegue producir carbono-11 para imaxe m\u00e9dica mediante aceleraci\u00f3n l\u00e1ser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unha investigaci\u00f3n liderada por persoal do Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE), centro mixto da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela e a Xunta de Galicia, conseguiu producir, por primeira vez, o radiois\u00f3topo carbono-11 en condici\u00f3ns adecuadas para o seu uso en imaxe m\u00e9dica a trav\u00e9s de aceleraci\u00f3n l\u00e1ser.<\/p>\n<p>A revista <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1038\/s41598-024-61540-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Scientific Reports<\/em> publicou recentemente o artigo<\/a> que describe este experimento. \u201cHai uns anos xa se demostrou a produci\u00f3n de radiois\u00f3topos para imaxe m\u00e9dica mediante aceleraci\u00f3n l\u00e1ser, pero esta \u00e9 a primeira vez que se conseguen producir durante un per\u00edodo de tempo suficiente para o seu uso en imaxe m\u00e9dica\u201d, explica Aar\u00f3n Alejo, investigador Ram\u00f3n y Cajal do IGFAE.<\/p>\n<p>Nesta ocasi\u00f3n, para producir o carbono-11 us\u00e1ronse pulsos l\u00e1ser de ata 30 J (xulios). Ao focalizar estes feixes en poucas micras de superficie, incidindo sobre unha l\u00e1mina de aluminio de 9 micras de grosor, consegu\u00edronse xerar prot\u00f3ns acelerados ata alcanzar unha enerx\u00eda de 15 megaelectronvoltios. \u00c1 s\u00faa vez, estes prot\u00f3ns produc\u00edan carbono-11, ao interaccionar cos n\u00facleos dos \u00e1tomos dunha l\u00e1mina de boro-11.<\/p>\n<p>O experimento desenvolveuse no Centro de L\u00e1seres Pulsados de Salamanca (CLPU), no marco dunha colaboraci\u00f3n do IGFAE, a Universidade de Sevilla, o Instituto de Instrumentaci\u00f3n para Imaxe Molecular do CSIC e a Universidade Polit\u00e9cnica de Valencia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOs resultados obtidos no CLPU demostran que a cantidade de carbono-11 que se pode producir hoxe en d\u00eda cun l\u00e1ser \u00e9 suficiente para realizar estudos pre-cl\u00ednicos e que en pouco tempo poder\u00edase chegar \u00e1 cantidade necesaria para o seu uso con humanos\u201d, asegura Jos\u00e9 Benlliure, autor principal do artigo, catedr\u00e1tico de F\u00edsica de Part\u00edculas e investigador principal do <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1038\/s41598-024-61540-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proxecto LaserPET.<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Unha oportunidade para facilitar o acceso a probas de imaxe m\u00e9dica<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>O avance conseguido por este equipo achega unha esperanzadora v\u00eda para facilitar o acceso a probas de diagn\u00f3stico mediante imaxe m\u00e9dica con radiomarcadores. Con todo, estas probas est\u00e1n actualmente limitadas pola tecnolox\u00eda necesaria para levalas a cabo.<\/p>\n<p>Todos os d\u00edas real\u00edzanse no mundo centos de miles destas operaci\u00f3ns. Estes radiomarcadores est\u00e1n compostos por unha mol\u00e9cula inerte para o organismo (por exemplo, a glicosa), que alberga un radiois\u00f3topo non estable, e que emite xeralmente fot\u00f3ns. Desta maneira, o paciente recibe este radiomarcador, enfocado ao \u00f3rgano que se quere estudar. Uns sensores espec\u00edficos conseguen detectar os fot\u00f3ns emitidos polo radiomarcador e, desta maneira, \u00e9 posible reconstru\u00edr a imaxe deste \u00f3rgano en tres dimensi\u00f3ns. Estas t\u00e9cnicas \u00fasanse, por exemplo, nas probas SPECT (tomograf\u00eda computerizada por emisi\u00f3n dun fot\u00f3n) ou PET (tomograf\u00eda por emisi\u00f3n de positr\u00f3ns).<\/p>\n<p>Neste \u00faltimo caso, os radiois\u00f3topos que se utilizan para as imaxes PET prod\u00facense en aceleradores de part\u00edculas, que te\u00f1en un elevado custo. Por iso, a partir duns poucos centros de produci\u00f3n en cada pa\u00eds, distrib\u00faense aos diferentes hospitais. A dificultade reside na curta vida media destes radiois\u00f3topos: xeralmente s\u00f3 se usa o fl\u00faor-18, cunha vida media de d\u00faas horas, o que permite se distribuci\u00f3n cunha marxe suficiente. Outros radiois\u00f3topos de interese como o carbono-11, o nitr\u00f3xeno-13 ou o os\u00edxeno-15, apenas se poden usar por esta limitaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Fronte a este reto, o equipo do IGFAE que agora lidera este experimento propuxo, hai uns anos, o desenvolvemento da tecnolox\u00eda necesaria para a xeraci\u00f3n destes radiomarcadores cun menor investimento. Mediante o proxecto LaserPET, investigan como avanzar neste cami\u00f1o, para equipar a calquera hospital coa s\u00faa unidade de produci\u00f3n propia, facilitando e xeneralizando o acceso a estas t\u00e9cnicas de diagn\u00f3stico con radiois\u00f3topos de vida media m\u00e1is curta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sobre o IGFAE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE) \u00e9 un centro de investigaci\u00f3n creado en 1999, co obxectivo de fomentar e coordinar a investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica e t\u00e9cnica no campo da f\u00edsica de altas enerx\u00edas, astropart\u00edculas e nuclear. O seu persoal participa nalgunhas das colaboraci\u00f3ns cient\u00edficas m\u00e1is importantes do mundo. Actualmente, o seu equipo est\u00e1 composto por unhas 130 persoas.<\/p>\n<p>O traballo cient\u00edfico do IGFAE foi reco\u00f1ecido, en d\u00faas ocasi\u00f3ns, coa acreditaci\u00f3n como Unidade de Excelencia Mar\u00eda de Maeztu, que outorga a Axencia Estatal de Investigaci\u00f3n.
