Esta colaboraci\u00f3n internacional na que participa o IGFAE, centro mixto da Universidade de Santiago de Compostela e a Xunta de Galicia, est\u00e1 a desenvolver un experimento de gran magnitude para afondar no co\u00f1ecemento dos neutrinos. Estas fuxid\u00edas part\u00edculas poden dar resposta a algunhas das preguntas clave na conformaci\u00f3n do Universo, como o predominio da materia sobre a antimateria, o proceso de creaci\u00f3n dos buracos negros ou o v\u00ednculo entre a materia escura e os propios neutrinos.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>1.500 metros baixo o solo e 800.000 toneladas de rochas<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15175\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-copia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/excavation-dune.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"507\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>O Fermilab, laboratorio nacional de aceleradores do Departamento de Enerx\u00eda dos EUA, anunciou este xoves a finalizaci\u00f3n dos traballos, que escavaron 800.000 toneladas de rochas ata chegar aos 1.500 metros de profundidade. Nestas cavernas comezar\u00e1n a instalarse, a finais de ano, os detectores de neutrinos distantes de DUNE, nunha superficie aproximada \u00e1 de oito campos de f\u00fatbol, unha vez verificados os seus principios t\u00e9cnicos de funcionamento na \u2018Plataforma de Neutrinos\u2019&#8217; do CERN. Estes detectores encheranse con miles de toneladas de argon l\u00edquido e ser\u00e1n refrixerados a temperaturas de -184\u00baC, co obxectivo de crear as condici\u00f3ns m\u00e1is axeitadas para a detecci\u00f3n dos neutrinos.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zoxjRsIzd4k?si=ByFdY1VLJR7JYMb3\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A outra parte clave do experimento sit\u00faase no acelerador de Fermilab en Chicago (Illinois) a case 1.300 km de distancia das mencionadas cavernas. Desde aqu\u00ed dispararanse feixes de neutrinos (os m\u00e1is potentes creados ata agora), capaces de percorrer esta distancia (semellante \u00e1 existente entre Santiago e Xenebra) a trav\u00e9s da terra e as rochas, sen interaccionar con outras part\u00edculas. A poucos centos de metros do punto de produci\u00f3n, os detectores \u2018cercanos\u2019 de DUNE interceptan o feixe de neutrinos antes de iniciar a s\u00faa viaxe, permitindo rexistrar os posibles cambios nas s\u00faas caracter\u00edsticas. Estas alteraci\u00f3ns poder\u00edan axudar a explicar a asimetr\u00eda entre materia e antimateria que hai no universo.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>ND-GAr: Tecnolox\u00eda do IGFAE para mellorar a detecci\u00f3n dos neutrinos<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Desde o IGFAE, un equipo liderado \u00a0polo profesor da USC e investigador do IGFAE Diego Gonz\u00e1lez D\u00edaz forma parte da colaboraci\u00f3n DUNE, que re\u00fane a m\u00e1is de 1.400 persoas e 200 instituci\u00f3ns de 36 pa\u00edses. O seu grupo participa no dese\u00f1o dun dos dous detectores \u2018cercanos\u2019, ND-GAr (Near Detector \u2013 Gaseous Argon), que se instalar\u00e1 nos vindeiros anos no Fermilab de Chicago, preto do punto de emisi\u00f3n do feixe de neutrinos.<\/p>\n<p>O xigantesco detector consiste principalmente nunha c\u00e1mara de proxecci\u00f3n temporal (TPC) de 100m<sup>3<\/sup>, un tipo de detector que combina campos el\u00e9ctricos e magn\u00e9ticos con gases ricos en arg\u00f3n no caso de DUNE, permitindo as\u00ed reconstru\u00edr a traxectoria das part\u00edculas producidas nas interacci\u00f3ns dos neutrinos.<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/localhost:8888\/igfae-copia\/gl\/neutrino-detector-dune\/<\/p>\n<p>O equipo do IGFAE traballa nunha proposta baseada no uso de c\u00e1maras \u00f3pticas ultra-r\u00e1pidas (2 mil-millon\u00e9simas de segundo por imaxe) a 10 atm\u00f3sferas de presi\u00f3n en arg\u00f3n dopado con tetrafluorometano. A tecnolox\u00eda, nunca antes empregada, permitir\u00e1 rexistrar con precisi\u00f3n de mil\u00edmetros as im\u00e1xenes das part\u00edculas procedentes da interacci\u00f3n dos neutrinos sobre unha rexi\u00f3n de 20 m<sup>2<\/sup>, precisando o instante da s\u00faa interacci\u00f3n con pouco m\u00e1is dunha mil-millon\u00e9sima de segundo. IGFAE \u00e9 o responsable principal do proxecto, en estreita colaboraci\u00f3n coa Universidade de Vigo e o IFIC en Valencia.<\/p>\n<p>Logo de que varios estudos incepcionais mostraran, nos \u00faltimos anos, a viabilidade conceptual e solidez da proposta, o equipo de traballo c\u00e9ntrase na actualidade en demostrar a operaci\u00f3n estable a 10 atm\u00f3sferas de presi\u00f3n e -25 \u00baC, da c\u00e1mara de proxecci\u00f3n temporal constru\u00edda na Facultade de F\u00edsica da USC. O obxectivo \u00e9 mostrar a calidade de imaxe antes mencionada a unha escala duns 8000cm<sup>3<\/sup>, de modo que permita avanzar nos aspectos de dese\u00f1o e integraci\u00f3n do detector final. O equipo, fortemente multidisciplinar, combina o liderazgo do IGFAE no desenvolvemento de detectores de radiaci\u00f3n gaseosos, coa experiencia de UVigo nas simulaci\u00f3ns de fluido-din\u00e1mica (CFD) e dese\u00f1o mec\u00e1nico, as\u00ed como a do IFIC en electr\u00f3nica r\u00e1pida e t\u00e9cnicas de simulaci\u00f3n en f\u00edsica de neutrinos. O obxectivo \u00e9 completar unha proposta t\u00e9cnica de dese\u00f1o da TPC de ND-GAr a mediados do ano 2025.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AYtKcZMJ_4c?si=-yQurn2dBOBIt3A4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5><strong>O misterio dos fuxid\u00edos neutrinos<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Estas part\u00edculas, que atravesan o noso corpo trill\u00f3ns de veces por segundo, son unha especie de pantasmas do mundo subat\u00f3mico, cunha masa moi pequena e sen carga el\u00e9ctrica. Por iso apenas interaccionan co resto de part\u00edculas elementais. Div\u00eddense en tres tipos (electr\u00f3nicos, mu\u00f3nicos e tau\u00f3nicos), e a s\u00faa identidade (ou \u2018sabor\u2019), vai mudando cando viaxan polo espazo.<\/p>\n<p>Debido \u00e1 s\u00faa natureza \u00e9 moi complicado determinar directamente as s\u00faas propiedades, pero as colaboraci\u00f3ns cient\u00edficas como DUNE conseguiron desenvolver m\u00e9todos indirectos para facelo. No caso do detector ND-GAr, no que participa o IGFAE, o obxectivo \u00e9 rexistrar, coa maior precisi\u00f3n posible, as interacci\u00f3ns dos neutrinos antes de que estes muden de sabor na s\u00faa longa viaxe de 1.300 km ata o Laboratorio Subterr\u00e1neo de Sanford.<\/p>\n<p>Para xerar as mellores condici\u00f3ns posibles, dese\u00f1ouse esta enorme infraestrutura que agora d\u00e1 un novo paso. A partir de agora, o persoal da obra trasladar\u00e1 os compo\u00f1entes dos detectores distantes que conformar\u00e1n DUNE, ao tempo que contin\u00faa a avanzar na construcci\u00f3n dos detectores \u2018cercanos\u2019.
