O proxecto pretende xerar altas doses de radiaci\u00f3n ultrarr\u00e1pida, co\u00f1ecida como \u2018radioterapia flash\u2019, mediante prot\u00f3ns acelerados por l\u00e1ser, para impactar en c\u00e9lulas vivas.<\/p>\n<p>Segundo explica o equipo deste experimento, na radioterapia convencional adoita aplicarse un feixe de part\u00edculas continuo. Pero nos \u00faltimos anos estase a observar que cando se aplica a dose establecida para a radiaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica en tempos curtos de menos dun segundo, red\u00facense considerablemente os efectos negativos deste tratamento sobre o tecido san. \u00c9 dicir, que os efectos na radioterapia non s\u00f3 dependen da dose que se administre, sen\u00f3n tam\u00e9n da s\u00faa taxa de aplicaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Para conseguir doses ultrarr\u00e1pidas de alta intensidade, os aceleradores l\u00e1ser son as ferramentas axeitadas: poden concentrar prot\u00f3ns, as part\u00edculas que forman o n\u00facleo do \u00e1tomo xunto ao neutr\u00f3n, en pulsos moi curtos e con doses instant\u00e1neas moi altas. Para isto utilizouse o l\u00e1ser VEGA da infraestrutura singular do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clpu.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centro de L\u00e1seres Pulsados (CLPU)<\/a> de Salamanca, o \u00fanico sistema de Espa\u00f1a capaz de alcanzar un pico de potencia dun petavatio cunha taxa de repetici\u00f3n dun hercio, que permite irradiar cada mostra nuns poucos minutos.<\/p>\n<p>Co obxectivo de entender os mecanismos que te\u00f1en lugar no organismo entre as diferentes taxas de doses de radiaci\u00f3n, util\u00edzanse como modelo cultivos celulares comerciais de adenocarcinoma humano, un tipo de cancro de pulm\u00f3n. O equipo do Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Sanitaria de Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), liderado por Ana Vega, foi responsable da preparaci\u00f3n das mostras utilizadas nos experimentos realizados no <a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/laserpet\/index.php\/laser-laboratory-for-acceleration-and-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laboratorio L\u00e1ser de Aceleraci\u00f3n e Aplicaci\u00f3ns (L2A2) <\/a>da capital galega. Para desenvolver o experimento no CPLU contaron co apoio dun grupo do Instituto de Biolog\u00eda Funcional y Gen\u00f3mica de Salamanca, baixo a direcci\u00f3n de Olga Calvo, que preparou as mostras, transportounas ao laboratorio e mant\u00edvoas baixo control ata a volta \u00e1s s\u00faas instalaci\u00f3ns, onde se analizaron con posterioridade.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>O IGFAE, a cargo da an\u00e1lise dos datos do experimento<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Para este experimento o IGFAE desenvolveu un branco (o medio de interacci\u00f3n do l\u00e1ser para xerar os prot\u00f3ns) que permite realizar ata 800 disparos nunhas poucas horas. Esta fonte de part\u00edculas, que funciona en alto baleiro, foi completada por un selector enerx\u00e9tico, constru\u00eddo polo i3M, para reducir a anchura do espectro dos prot\u00f3ns e para guialos a trav\u00e9s dunha xanela delgada, condici\u00f3n necesaria para a irradiaci\u00f3n das mostras biol\u00f3xicas que se mante\u00f1en baixo presi\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n<p>O equipo do IGFAE neste experimento est\u00e1 composto por Aar\u00f3n Alejo, Jos\u00e9 Benlliure, Adri\u00e1n Bembibre e\u00a0Alicia\u00a0Reija, estudante de doutoramento que analizar\u00e1 todos os datos do proxecto no marco da s\u00faa tese.<\/p>\n<p>Este traballo enm\u00e1rcase nun programa experimental que o IGFAE desenvolve desde hai anos desde o L2A2<a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/laserpet\/index.php\/laser-laboratory-for-acceleration-and-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">,<\/a> en colaboraci\u00f3n co IDIS, baixo a direcci\u00f3n do investigador do IGFAE Jos\u00e9 Benlliure, onde se irradiaron os primeiros cultivos celulares con pulsos ultra-cortos de raios X.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Pr\u00f3ximo obxectivo: aumentar a dose instant\u00e1nea<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Segundo \u00a0Michael Seimetz, investigador principal do proxecto e cient\u00edfico do Instituto de Instrumentaci\u00f3n para Imagen Molecular (i3M), centro mixto do Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas (CSIC) e a Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia (UPV), o seguinte paso do experimento ser\u00e1 aumentar a dose instant\u00e1nea: \u201cPoderi\u00e1molo lograr focalizando o feixe de prot\u00f3ns detr\u00e1s do branco, porque dese xeito aumentaremos o fluxo de prot\u00f3ns acelerados\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Radiaci\u00f3n ultrarr\u00e1pida y ultraintensa contra c\u00e9lulas tumorales en el Centro de L\u00e1seres Pulsados\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ttO7jXsizVQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Persoal investigador do Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE) participa nun experimento pioneiro en Espa\u00f1a que utiliza unha nova tecnolox\u00eda para reducir os efectos negativos da radioterapia en tecidos sans.
