Os resultados publ\u00edcanse en<em> Physical\u00a0 Review\u00a0 Letters <\/em>e<em>\u00a0 Physical\u00a0 Review D<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O Modelo Est\u00e1ndar da f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas \u00e9 a teor\u00eda m\u00e1is precisa que describe as propiedades e interacci\u00f3ns da materia. Con todo, non incl\u00fae alg\u00fans fen\u00f3menos ben co\u00f1ecidos como a gravitaci\u00f3n ou a materia escura. O obxectivo de moitos experimentos de f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas \u00e9 identificar fisuras que indiquen como ir m\u00e1is al\u00f3 desta teor\u00eda. Unha das principais tarefas do experimento LHCb no Gran Colisionador de Hadr\u00f3ns do CERN \u00e9 detectar e medir desintegraci\u00f3ns extremadamente raras de part\u00edculas producidas en colisi\u00f3ns de prot\u00f3ns de moi alta enerx\u00eda. Un destes eventos \u00e9 a desintegraci\u00f3n do mes\u00f3n B estra\u00f1o \u2012formado por un quark s e un antiquark b\u2012 en dous mu\u00f3ns, variantes pesadas do electr\u00f3n. Neste caso, raro significa que, segundo o Modelo Est\u00e1ndar, de cada mil mill\u00f3ns de mes\u00f3ns B estra\u00f1os s\u00f3 tres se desintegran desta maneira. Por tanto, neces\u00edtanse moit\u00edsimos datos para medir a desintegraci\u00f3n con precisi\u00f3n. Numerosas propostas para estender o Modelo Est\u00e1ndar, en cambio, pred\u00edn valores diferentes para estas taxas de desintegraci\u00f3ns raras.<\/p>\n<p>En dous novos traballos publicados nas revistas\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.128.041801\"><em>Physical Review Letters<\/em><\/a> e <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prd\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevD.105.012010\"><em>Physical Review D<\/em><\/a>, a colaboraci\u00f3n do\u00a0 LHCb, da que forma parte o IGFAE, centro mixto da USC e a Xunta de Galicia, informa da medida m\u00e1is precisa ata a data da taxa de desintegraci\u00f3n do mes\u00f3n B estra\u00f1o. Estes resultados, nos que participou o investigador postdoutoral do IGFAE Titus Momb\u00e4cher, son tan significativos que ademais foron destacadas como \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/physics.aps.org\/articles\/v15\/s8\">Suxerencia dos editores<\/a>\u201d en ambas as revistas.<\/p>\n<p>O equipo tam\u00e9n explorou outras desintegraci\u00f3ns do mes\u00f3n B estra\u00f1o e do mes\u00f3n\u00a0 B neutro \u2012formado por un quark d e un\u00a0 antiquark b\u2012 que o Modelo Est\u00e1ndar , sen atopalas (resultado esperado debido a que son necesarios m\u00e1is datos). Deste xeito, estes traballos apontoan a teor\u00eda con enorme precisi\u00f3n e restrinxen as s\u00faas posibles extensi\u00f3ns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Achega do IGFAE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nesta an\u00e1lise, baseado en datos recompilados entre 2011 e 2018, participaron investigadores de Alema\u00f1a, Inglaterra, Italia, Pa\u00edses Baixos e Su\u00edza. Titus Momb\u00e4cher, investigador do IGFAE na actualidade, fixo as s\u00faas contribuci\u00f3ns mentres traballaba en Dortmund. \u201cA mi\u00f1a achega espec\u00edfica \u2012explica\u2012 foi principalmente na avaliaci\u00f3n de procesos que poder\u00edan confundirse con desintegraci\u00f3ns do mes\u00f3n B e os procedementos estat\u00edsticos para avaliar o resultado final. \u00c9 dicir, determinar as probabilidades de desintegraci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como as cotas superiores para aquelas desintegraci\u00f3ns que non observamos con claridade\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A procura das desintegraci\u00f3ns do mes\u00f3n B repetiuse moitas veces ao longo dos anos segundo o LHCb acumulaba datos, xa que cuantos m\u00e1is se te\u00f1en, m\u00e1is precisa pode ser a nova medida. Os investigadores do IGFAE Diego Mart\u00ednez e Xabier Cid traballaron cos primeiros datos recolleitos en 2011 e participaron na <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.110.021801\">primeira evidencia da desintegraci\u00f3n do mes\u00f3n B en 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cO LHC ponse en marcha de novo este ano, tras unha parada t\u00e9cnica para mellorar a s\u00faa sensibilidade e poderemos acumular datos m\u00e1is r\u00e1pido e con mellores t\u00e9cnicas, como nunca antes\u201d, explica Titus. \u201cCos novos datos poderemos, por unha banda, inspeccionar m\u00e1is de preto se existe unha discrepancia entre as probabilidades de desintegraci\u00f3n preditas no Modelo Est\u00e1ndar e as medidas. Por outra banda, te\u00f1o previsto investigar outras propiedades da desintegraci\u00f3n do mes\u00f3n B estra\u00f1o en dous mu\u00f3ns, que proporcionar\u00e1n informaci\u00f3n adicional sobre os procesos f\u00edsicos que o orixinan.
