A study by John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University, Kevin W. Boyack of SciTech Strategies and Jeroen Baas of the Elsevier company reveals the list of scientists with the greatest impact in the world. Of the 160,000 researchers, 39 are from the University of Santiago and 6 from the IGFAE.

The ranking lists the researchers who are in the first 2% of each of the 22 fields and 176 scientific subfields according to the impact index (h-index) and number of citations of their published articles, among other common indicators of the research world. These indicators are extracted from Scopus, the world’s largest bibliographic database of abstracts and citations of articles from peer-reviewed scientific journals.
