Towards a Combinatorial Holography
Seminar

Abstract: Holography is the statement a theory of gravity has an equivalent definition in terms of a theory living at the boundary as they share the very same physical observables. While this idea find a concrete realisation for theories on a manifold which is asymptotically AdS, no satisfactory formulation is available for theories on asymptotically flat or expanding space-times. Recent years have seen the development of a combinatorial-geometrical description of physical processes in both these situations. Its main feature is that it does not rely on any notion of fields or other physical ideas, rather it has its own intrinsic first-principle mathematical definition, from which physical observables, as well as the physical principles constraining them, emerge. Precisely this feature provides a definition for a full-fledge mathematical theory living on the boundary. I will provide a pedagogical review on the subject, emphasising how it provides a novel, and unified, way of understanding physical processes in flat and expanding space-times in terms of boundary data. This seminar will take place in the Sala de Xuntas and Zoom. https://zoom.us/j/97561282565?pwd=eE1mSFNqcnpLOWxiKy9JejRBendNQT09 Meeting ID: 975 6128 2565 Passcode: 738971 |
