{"id":23221,"date":"2026-04-07T09:59:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T07:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/?p=23221"},"modified":"2026-04-01T13:45:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T11:45:25","slug":"incorporacion-experimento-cms-do-cern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/es\/incorporacion-experimento-cms-do-cern\/","title":{"rendered":"El IGFAE se une al experimento CMS del CERN."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>El Instituto Galego de F\u00edsica de Altas Enerx\u00edas (IGFAE), centro mixto de la USC y la Xunta de Galicia, se ha incorporado oficialmente al <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.cern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">experimento CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) del CERN<\/a> , una de las principales colaboraciones de la Organizaci\u00f3n Europea para la Investigaci\u00f3n Nuclear. El CMS, junto con el experimento ATLAS, fue responsable de la observaci\u00f3n del bos\u00f3n de Higgs en 2012, uno de los mayores hitos de la f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p>La portavoz de CMS, Anadi Canepa, comunic\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n al director del IGFAE, Carlos A. Salgado, tras su aprobaci\u00f3n por el equipo directivo del experimento en las \u00faltimas semanas. Con ello concluye un proceso que comenz\u00f3 en la primavera de 2025 e incluy\u00f3 una visita de representantes de CMS a Santiago de Compostela en noviembre, entre ellos Anadi Canepa, para conocer las nuevas instalaciones del IGFAE y sus capacidades cient\u00edficas y t\u00e9cnicas.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo de IGFAE en CMS estar\u00e1 dirigido por el investigador Xabier Cid Vidal, tambi\u00e9n profesor titular de la USC. &#8220;La incorporaci\u00f3n de IGFAE a CMS supone un hito para Galicia, ya que se trata de una de las mayores colaboraciones cient\u00edficas del mundo&#8221;, destaca. &#8220;Es un experimento de prop\u00f3sito general que garantiza la toma de datos hasta la d\u00e9cada de 2040, lo que asegura la permanencia de IGFAE en el LHC para las futuras generaciones de f\u00edsicos y f\u00edsicas\u00bb, a\u00f1ade Xabier Cid.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23211\" style=\"width: 1610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23211\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23211\" src=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/Xabier-Cid_CMS.jpg\" alt=\"Xabier Cid dirigir\u00e1 el trabajo del IGFAE en el CMS, que contiene el im\u00e1n solenoide m\u00e1s grande jam\u00e1s construido. Cr\u00e9dito de la imagen: V\u00edctor D\u00edaz D\u00edaz \/ Samuel Hertzog &#8211; CERN.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>La integraci\u00f3n en CMS tambi\u00e9n permitir\u00e1 reforzar el equipo de IGFAE, abriendo nuevas y prometedoras oportunidades para el personal egresado del Instituto, pero tambi\u00e9n para la captaci\u00f3n de talento externo que trabaja en CMS procedente de otras instituciones.<\/p>\n<p>En el \u00e1mbito cient\u00edfico, IGFAE contribuir\u00e1 a CMS en la b\u00fasqueda de las denominadas \u00abpart\u00edculas de larga vida\u00bb (LLP) y en la detecci\u00f3n de part\u00edculas del sector oscuro, as\u00ed como en la f\u00edsica de sabores extra\u00f1os. Tambi\u00e9n aportar\u00e1 su base te\u00f3rica a los estudios de fenomenolog\u00eda y estrategias de an\u00e1lisis.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Part\u00edculas de larga vida: una nueva v\u00eda para descifrar el universo\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZliKmJ_FvMI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Desde una perspectiva m\u00e1s t\u00e9cnica, el centro gallego aportar\u00e1 sus conocimientos en computaci\u00f3n en tiempo real; en trigger (los sistemas que permiten decidir qu\u00e9 colisiones de part\u00edculas deben considerarse para el an\u00e1lisis); en I+D de detectores o m\u00e9todos de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico para la clasificaci\u00f3n, reconstrucci\u00f3n y simulaci\u00f3n de se\u00f1ales.<\/p>\n<p>La entrada del Instituto en CMS se basa en la dilatada experiencia que el IGFAE ha acumulado en las \u00e1reas de trabajo mencionadas, tras d\u00e9cadas de participaci\u00f3n en el experimento LHCb, otra de las principales colaboraciones del CERN, donde el Instituto lidera la representaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Acerca de la colaboraci\u00f3n CMS y su detector<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>La colaboraci\u00f3n CMS re\u00fane a m\u00e1s de 6000 personas (entre personal de investigaci\u00f3n, t\u00e9cnico, ingeniero e inform\u00e1tico) de m\u00e1s de 50 pa\u00edses, que representan a m\u00e1s de 250 instituciones y universidades. Estas cifras la convierten en una de las mayores colaboraciones cient\u00edficas de la historia.<\/p>\n<p>Este equipo es responsable de operar y recopilar datos de su detector, el Compact Muon Solenoid, con el objetivo de responder a las inc\u00f3gnitas que a\u00fan persisten en torno al Modelo Est\u00e1ndar de la F\u00edsica de Part\u00edculas o la posible existencia de materia oscura.<\/p>\n<p>El detector CMS est\u00e1 instalado alrededor del im\u00e1n solenoide m\u00e1s grande jam\u00e1s construido, con un campo de 4 teslas, aproximadamente 100 000 veces mayor que el campo magn\u00e9tico terrestre. Este campo est\u00e1 confinado por una estructura de acero que constituye la mayor parte del peso del detector (14 000 toneladas en total). Mide 21 metros de largo, 15 de ancho y 15 de alto.<\/p>\n<p>De esta forma, funciona como una enorme c\u00e1mara de alt\u00edsima velocidad, que captura im\u00e1genes tridimensionales de colisiones de part\u00edculas, las cuales ocurren hasta 40 millones de veces por segundo.
