{"id":20606,"date":"2025-06-12T14:44:43","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T12:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/santiago-acolle-unha-reunion-para-desenar-o-futuro-detector-velo-do-experimento-lhcb-do-cern\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T14:11:35","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T12:11:35","slug":"velo-u2-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/es\/velo-u2-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Santiago acoge una reuni\u00f3n para dise\u00f1ar el futuro detector VELO del experimento LHCb del CERN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Desde el 11 hasta el 13 de junio, m\u00e1s de 40 investigadores e investigadoras se re\u00fanen en la Facultad de Ciencias Pol\u00edticas de la USC para dise\u00f1ar la nueva actualizaci\u00f3n (Upgrade 2) del detector de v\u00e9rtices (VELO) del<a href=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/es\/experimento\/lhcb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> experimento LHCb<\/a>, una de las principales colaboraciones del CERN (Organizaci\u00f3n Europea para la Investigaci\u00f3n Nuclear).<\/p>\n<p>El <a href=\"https:\/\/indico.cern.ch\/event\/1535828\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evento, organizado por el IGFAE,<\/a> cuenta con la participaci\u00f3n de personal experto del propio CERN, el Instituto de F\u00edsica Subat\u00f3mica de \u00c1msterdam (Nikhef) y universidades como las de Oxford, Mil\u00e1n, Cagliari, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Frascati, Warwick, R\u00edo de Janeiro, adem\u00e1s del Centro Nacional de Microelectr\u00f3nica (CNM-CSIC) y otras instituciones.<\/p>\n<p>Las jornadas se centran en el desarrollo del nuevo VELO, abordando el I+D+i necesario en sensores de silicio, dise\u00f1o de chips, mec\u00e1nica, refrigeraci\u00f3n y electr\u00f3nica del detector, con el objetivo de trazar un calendario de trabajo y las principales decisiones tecnol\u00f3gicas que se tomar\u00e1n en los pr\u00f3ximos a\u00f1os la este respeto.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sobre LHCb y VELO<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>El experimento LHCb estudia la asimetr\u00eda entre materia y antimateria a trav\u00e9s del quark b (beauty). Forma parte del Gran Colisionador de Hadr\u00f3ns (LHC), situado en la frontera franco-suiza bajo la sede del CERN, y cuenta con la participaci\u00f3n de unas 1.800 personas de mas de 100 instituciones en 24 pa\u00edses.<\/p>\n<p>El IGFAE es miembro fundador de LHCb y el centro de investigaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ol con mayor implicaci\u00f3n en el proyecto, liderando tareas clave como la construcci\u00f3n del Silicon Tracker, o VELO, el an\u00e1lisis de datos y la futura actualizaci\u00f3n del experimento (Upgrade II).<\/p>\n<p>El detector VELO mide con alta precisi\u00f3n los v\u00e9rtices primarios (colisi\u00f3n de protones) y secundarios (decaimiento de part\u00edculas como los hadrones B, que contienen quarks b). Dado que estas part\u00edculas tienen venidas muy cortas, VELO sit\u00faa sus sensores de silicio a solo 5 mm del haz de part\u00edculas. Para evitar da\u00f1os, los sensores se mantienen alejados durante la inyecci\u00f3n del manojo y se acercan una vez estabilizado. Aunque los hadrones B no se detectan directamente, su presencia pueden inferirse con una precisi\u00f3n inferior a 10 micras gracias a las mejoras tecnol\u00f3gicas desarrolladas por equipos como el del IGFAE.<\/p>\n<p>El IGFAE cuenta con la acreditaci\u00f3n como Unidad de Excelencia Mar\u00eda de Maeztu, otorgada por la Agencia Estatal de Investigaci\u00f3n del Gobierno de Espa\u00f1a. Forma tambi\u00e9n parte de la red CIGUS de la Xunta de Galicia, que acredita la calidad e impacto de su investigaci\u00f3n.
