This meeting aims to foster dialogue between academia and industry, and showcase professional opportunities for students interested in data science. This is the second time that this meeting has been held in Santiago de Compostela, after the 2024 edition, and three previous meetings in Coimbra (2022), Braga (2019) and Lisbon (2018). <a href=\"https:\/\/igfae26.congressmaker.com\/register\">Registration is open until Sunday, May 17.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>School (June 8-10) and symposium (June 11-12)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The event consists of two parts. From June 8 to 10, an intensive school on Probability, Statistics, Machine Learning and Complex Systems will take place. These sessions are aimed at undergraduate, master\u2019s, PhD students and postdoc staff, and will be led by Glen Cowan (Royal Holloway, London, United Kingdom) and Eddie Lee (Seoul National University, South Korea).<\/p>\n<p>In the following days, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June, a symposium will be held focused on the relationships between fundamental physics and industry, with data science as the connecting link. Representatives of companies and institutions such as Anaxa, Bahia Software, CESGA, Clarity AI, Finsa, ITG, FSAS \u2013 Fujitsu, Google, Gradiant, Inditex, ITG, Mestrelab, Navantia, Novartis, Plexus Tech, Quantum Spain or SDG Group will present the latest trends in the sector, the demands, and the practical applications of data science in day\u2011to\u2011day work.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Data science: essential knowledge in a time of great transformations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The global job market has long been demanding personnel specialized in data science, and it is gaining relevance, with profound social changes. This discipline aims to analyse enormous sets of information that are produced continuously, to find correlations, causal relationships and patterns with which to build hypotheses, assign meanings or evaluate the efficiency of algorithms.<\/p>\n<p>In these profiles, training in the field of fundamental physics and related disciplines, such as mathematics or computer science, is valued in many cases. The applications of data science in industry are transversal, ranging from social media corporations to financial multinationals, retail, pharmaceutical, consulting or telecommunications companies.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the symposium organized by the IGFAE aims, on the one hand, to improve the training in data science of research staff who are in the early stages of their careers. And, at the same time, it offers the opportunity to establish direct contact with the job market and, in general, with society\u2019s needs in this area.
