International Year of Quantum Science and Technology<\/a> is being celebrated, coinciding with the centenary of the publication, in 1925, of some of the papers that laid the foundations of quantum mechanics, and the consequent revolution in our understanding of the natural world. On the occasion of this anniversary, IGFAE Science Week approaches this discipline \u2014essential for the development of modern physics\u2014 from very diverse perspectives.<\/p>\nIn her talk, The Second Quantum Revolution: The Path from Science to Engineering<\/em>, Ant\u00eda Lamas will address the opportunities that, 100 years later, the development of quantum mechanics offers for producing new technologies and products.<\/p>\nAnt\u00eda Lamas Li\u00f1ares grew up in Santiago de Compostela and earned her degree in Physics at USC. She later obtained a Master\u2019s in Applied Optics at Imperial College London and her PhD at the University of Oxford. She subsequently carried out postdoctoral research at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before establishing her own quantum optics group at the National University of Singapore. During her time in Singapore, she helped launch the Centre for Quantum Technologies, where she was a founding Principal Investigator.<\/p>\n
Since 2010 she has worked in the United States, first at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and later at the Texas Advanced Computing Center. In 2019 she joined SpeQtral, a Singaporean startup focused on satellite-based quantum communications, as Principal Quantum Scientist.
