These awards, which recognize academic and research excellence in the field of Nuclear Physics among young researchers, featured strong representation from IGFAE in the area of Experimental Nuclear Physics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"579\" data-end=\"825\">IGFAE graduate <strong data-start=\"19\" data-end=\"32\">Juan Lois<\/strong> received the award for the <strong data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"84\">best doctoral thesis<\/strong>, while PhD student <strong data-start=\"115\" data-end=\"133\">David Palacios<\/strong> won the award for the <strong data-start=\"156\" data-end=\"187\">best Master\u2019s Final Project<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"193\" data-end=\"215\">Beatriz Errandonea<\/strong> obtained a <strong data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"254\">runner-up award <\/strong>in the same category.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"832\" data-end=\"881\"><strong>Juan Lois, award for the best doctoral thesis<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"1503\">The thesis <em data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"990\">Complete spectroscopy of 16C and 20O with solid and active targets using transfer reactions,<\/em>\u00a0defended by Juan Lois at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in July 2023, was recognized as the best in Spain in the category of Experimental Nuclear Physics. His research was supervised by Prof. Beatriz Fern\u00e1ndez Dom\u00ednguez (USC professor and IGFAE researcher) and Thomas Roger, researcher from the Grand Acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur National d\u2019Ions Lourds (GANIL). Juan is currently working as a postdoc at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), a research center at Michigan State University (USA).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21469\" style=\"width: 1930px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21469\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21469\" src=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/David-Beatriz.jpg\" alt=\"David Palacios e Beatriz Errandonea, doutorandos do IGFAE, foron reco\u00f1ecidos polo seu traballo de fin de m\u00e1ster.\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/David-Beatriz.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/David-Beatriz-1500x844.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/David-Beatriz-750x422.jpg 750w, https:\/\/igfae.usc.es\/igfae\/wp-content\/uploads\/David-Beatriz-30x17.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21469\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Palacios and Beatriz Errandonea, PhD students at IGFAE, were recognized for their Master\u2019s Final Projects.<\/p><\/div>\n<h4 data-start=\"1510\" data-end=\"1571\"><strong>David Palacios, award for the best Master\u2019s Final Project<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Also in the area of Experimental Nuclear Physics, in the category of Master\u2019s Final Projects, IGFAE PhD David Palacios Su\u00e1rez-Bustamante was recognized for his work <em data-start=\"1761\" data-end=\"1834\">Study of nuclear structure of 76,77Zn populated from \u03b2 decay of 77Cu,<\/em>\u00a0carried out in the ISOLDE experiment at CERN and presented in September 2023 at the Complutense University of Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating in Physics and completing his Master\u2019s in Nuclear Physics, David joined IGFAE at the end of 2023, where he is currently pursuing his PhD thesis on the study of shape coexistence and clustering in exotic nuclei under the supervision of Yassid Ayyad (IGFAE) and Bruno Olaizola (CSIC).<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"2284\" data-end=\"2354\"><strong>Beatriz Errandonea, runner-up for the Master\u2019s Final Project Award<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"3000\">In addition to these two distinctions, IGFAE doctoral student Beatriz Errandonea F\u00e9lix received a runner-up award for her Master\u2019s Final Project <em data-start=\"2509\" data-end=\"2632\">Analysis of the half-life of the neutron-rich exotic nucleus 54Ti and its beta decay to 54V through gamma spectroscopy,<\/em>\u00a0also presented in September 2023 at the Complutense University of Madrid.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"3000\">Like David, Beatriz later joined IGFAE, where she is currently working on her PhD thesis focused on the study of the evolution of nuclear structure and fission dynamics using low-energy reactions, supervised by Manuel Caama\u00f1o Fresco (IGFAE) and Diego Ramos Doval (GANIL).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nuclear Physics Specialized Group (GEFN) of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics (RSEF), together with the company ATI Sistemas, recently announced the results of the GEFN\u2013ATI Sistemas Awards for the best doctoral theses and master\u2019s final projects carried out between 2021 and 2023.
