Dear Imad,
your position agrees with mine, but we were very far from making a point
by a majority argument,
in the light of other's opinions.
The numerical marks for the referred contributions also, generally,
spoke against this.
So we would need to overrule IAC and IOC decision twice, that does not
seem like a good way to
start. As IOC member, I'd suggest not to do such a thing before we
establish in Santiago
the exact procedures for the future.
Pino proposed a last-minute solution consisting of the merging of CMS
contributions in a way that seems
agreeable, given the circumstances, and enable space to discuss trigger.
I also encouraged them to try to
enable a combined ATLAS/CMS talk, despite the prospects for convergence
in short time not being good.

some news on proceedings and agenda (action needed!)

Dear colleagues,
Some news:
1- We would need to agree on the journal for the proceedings. I checked,
and the best options (that are, on top, free from fees!)
seem to be JINST and NIM. Any preference here?.
2- Sorry for the delay with the agenda, I will prepare a preliminary one
over the incoming week, together with
prospective conveners for each session.
3- We filled already all pre-booked rooms at the campus (that are very
affordable, 258E per double room for the whole
stay), but I was somewhat surprised that very few students requested it.
Please encourage your students to apply, as
it might be possible for me to allocate rooms that are left vacant down
the road.
4- Please, encourage your colleagues to register as soon as possible!.

I regret to inform you that your request did not find support, among the
IOC, IAC and LOC. There
was a*majority agreement*, though, that a combined talk ATLAS/CMS on
trigger would be very relevant
for this or a future conference. Due to the very short timing, it was
felt that it would be better to postpone.
I wish I could give you more details. I will have a direct conversation
with Barbara (with whom I have
a personal connection) to try to understand better what has happened. I
find that it is a pity that you
two are so strongly convinced that at least one of these contributions
deserves a talk, while at the
same time they were not strongly ranked by committees, despite the topic
is considered important.
So, a conversation should help.

Dear colleagues,
I think that we are in conditions to take a decision. One important
issue to address is whether we want
to keep a 0-rejection policy and accept all works, however effectively
'downgrading' some
of the contributions to posters. At least three of the IAC/IOC members
who have reviewed the contributions
supported this idea.
Honestly, I have doubts that this is the best course of action. A good
contribution might be suitable
for a poster in some cases, and a contribution proposed as poster by the
authors might be considered
more adequate for oral discussion. Other possibilities might exist.
Considering 'downgraded' works into the poster session just makes the
poster session poorer, one may think.
This, said, in view of the DRD1 transition, and the opportunity to
assess the strength of the community,
coupled to the fact that many proposed posters are expected to
correspond to students, in my quality
of IOC member I would like to support the idea of 0-rejection policy,
for this time. As a LOC chair,
I can say that proposing a poster rather than rejecting it will help at
the organization too.
*I believe, however, that the IOC should address the convenience of
maintaining this policy during the meeting,
in view of the success (or not) of the poster session.*
So, here my proposal:
1- Rejected contributions -> upgrade to posters.
2- Contributions that are currently considered borderline between
posters/talks -> I can see reasons for
upgrading all of them to talks (they usually refer to a specific
activity carried by a research institute, with a non-negligible
amount of work behind) except perhaps contribution 22. If we move 22 to
a poster, the number of talks for CMS
and ATLAS gets balanced, too.
I attach here the final proposal (last) and the previous one (prev).
Please feel free to comment during Monday, as fine-tuning is certainly
possible. I will prepare a preliminary agenda by tomorrow,
and then contact the session conveners to converge to the final agenda.
By Wd 23:59, at latest, I will inform all participants.

Re: [RPC2024IAC] status of accepted contributions

Dear Alessandro,
thanks for your last-minute comments. As there was no other criteria for
decision, I accepted your proposal regarding 12 and 22 and switched them.
Regarding MPI and USTC's reports on ATLAS upgrade, as obviously there
seem to exist reasonable doubts, I also kept them. Concerning 81... and
given that J. Garzón
has recently retired, he is member of the local committee, and he is the
driver of this project, I'd rather give him the chance to present his
view for the future orally.
I attach here the list of accepted contributions, that can be considered
as final. I will be distributing the agenda and communicating the
decision to participants
as soon as practically possible, not later than Wd at 23:59, as
announced earlier.
