Dear IAC, IOC and LOC colleagues,
May I ask you to weigh in here?. What do you propose as a sensible
course of action?.
all the best

Dear Diego,
I am very sorry for your answer.
When we discussed the opportunity to accept remote talks, I understood
we were
focussing on invited talks, because in that case, the in-person presence
could be
particularly important and significant.
I missed that this was instead assumed as a general rule for all
participants,
my fault probably.
In particular, talking about insulting the participants is rather
offensive to both
me and Alessandro, who have always followed the rules and also have great
respect for our colleagues.
Alessandro Rocchi is a young researcher, at the moment he has just been
hired by a
different research institute (not INFN) and he cannot travel or even
stay on leave.
This is the reason for our request.
So if this cannot be accommodated we will be forced to cancel the two talks.
I believe this would be a loss not only for us but also for the conference.
Best regards
Barbara

Dear Barbara
Remote talks are being taken in the following cases:
- Invited talks.
- Unexpected changes or unforeseen circumstances (not the case,
apparently)
Breaking this rule would create troubles with other participants that
have already
designated replacement speakers. It is also very bad for the
conference to enable remote
talks as a rule.
Moreover, Alessandro has two talks, that will make the insult to the
participants who could
not come very apparent.
It seems to me that he should come. I can arrange cheap rooms (160E
for 6 days) and we can
waive the fee. This is already more than what we have done for any
participant.
Is he a PhD student?.
all the best
Diego
