Dear DIS2022 WG6 convenors,
We are the ECCE talks committee, and we have been following the recent replies from DIS
2022 to our colleagues in ECCE, and have a few questions and concerns.
We understand that the abstract from Charlotte van Hulse was accepted by WG6. We are very
pleased about hearing this.
That said, we are quite concerned about the merging of the forward jet talk and our far
forward detector and physics talks, and their subsequent merging into a single general
talk about the EIC far-forward region. By doing so, we feel we are losing a focus on some
important physics topics, such as u-channel DVCS, which are unique to the ECCE proposal.
We are also concerned about losing exposure for our young scientists in ECCE.
Our sense is that there has not been sufficient time for a single young scientist to
become familiar with the designs for both detectors. We feel that the community would
benefit more from talks on specific physics and detector configurations, delivered by a
speaker from a specific collaboration.
Thus, our primary request is for WG6 to kindly consider splitting the far-forward talk
again, e.g. into
1. One talk from Alex on the EIC far-forward region
2. Another, potentially shorter, talk from ECCE focusing on use of the B0 calorimeter to
perform measurements of u-channel DVCS, and perhaps a brief discussion of the ECCE forward
jet physics program.
We would be happy to discuss this in real time, if that would be useful. Thanks for your
time and consideration of our concerns.
Best regards,
Nick and Peter
