ALICE results show new phenomena in proton-proton collisions

02 May ALICE results show new phenomena in proton-proton collisions

In a paper published in Nature Physics, the ALICE collaboration reports that proton-proton collisions present similar patterns to those observed in the collisions of heavy nuclei. This behaviour was spotted through the observation of so-called strange hadrons in certain proton-proton collisions in which a large number of particles are created. It goes in the same direction as previous observations on two-particle correlations elongated in pseudorapidity and collimated in azimuth – the ridge.
